Spiro Expands Electric Mobility in Uganda, Strengthens Government Partnership

Spiro, Africa’s largest electric motorcycle manufacturer, is accelerating its expansion across the continent, solidifying its presence in 10 countries. With commercial operations in five nations and upcoming launches in Ghana, Cameroon, Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Tanzania in 2025, the company is making significant strides in the e-mobility sector.

Speaking on the company’s efforts in Uganda, Mr.  Bruce Mucunguzi, Deputy Head of Country for Spiro, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing sustainable transport solutions.

"We are very excited to be a part of the government’s initiatives to increase access to clean energy through e-mobility, swap stations, and vehicle charging points," he said.

Mucunguzi made these remarks during the official launch of Uganda’s first EV charging station at Amber House in Kampala on Wednesday. The event was presided over by Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa, the Minister for Energy and Mineral Development.

In partnership with the Ugandan government, Spiro is driving the transition to electric motorcycles, offering boda boda riders and personal motorcycle users an affordable and environmentally friendly alternative.

Further strengthening this transition, Spiro is encouraged by the government's efforts to establish EV charge tariffs through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development. This initiative is expected to make electric vehicle adoption more accessible to local communities.

It will also create opportunities for indigenous businesses to partner with Spiro as franchisees and distributors.

"We believe that unlocking these opportunities will expand the EV space, create jobs, and enable broader participation in Uganda’s growing clean energy ecosystem," Mucunguzi added.

With one of the world’s largest battery swap networks, Spiro ensures that electric motorcycle users can seamlessly transition from traditional fuel-powered bikes without concerns over range limitations.

As Uganda embraces the future of electric mobility, Spiro’s role in shaping a sustainable and accessible transportation system remains pivotal.
