Irene Nakasiita Elected PRAU President as Association Holds 49th AGM

The Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU) held its 49th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Hotel Africana in Kampala, Saturday. The event focused on critical agenda items including the appointment of new auditors, the launch of the PRAU Strategic Plan 2025–2029, and the election of a new Governing Council for the 2025–2027 term.
Ms. Irene Nakasiita, Head of Publicity at the Uganda Red Cross Society, was elected unopposed as PRAU President, taking over from Ms. Tina Wamala of the British High Commission.
In her acceptance remarks, Nakasiita expressed deep appreciation for the confidence shown in her and emphasized the importance of unity and active member engagement.
“I count on your cooperation as we take PRAU forward together. We’ve had a graceful day, fruitful discussions, and I give thanks to all members for the massive turnout and thoughtful contributions,” she said.
Ms. Ronala Beinomugisha of Eiraka Communication Connect was elected Vice President, succeeding Mr. Paul Mwirigi.
Outgoing President Tina Wamala reflected on her term, highlighting key achievements such as institutional strengthening, increased membership, and improved governance systems.
She noted that under her leadership, PRAU introduced crucial policies in human resources, procurement, and anti-money laundering. Wamala also emphasized the advancement of professional standards through the tabling of the PRAU Bill in Parliament as a private member’s bill.
“We built strong partnerships with organisations such as Uganda Baati, Artfield Institute of Art and Design, and regional bodies like the East Africa Public Relations Association,” she added, urging members to remain people of integrity and take an active role in PRAU’s activities.
Additional positions on the new Governing Council include Ms. Nancy Akullo, Communications Manager at the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda, as Director of Programmes.
Ms. Stella Marion Athieno, Managing Director of Butterfly Communication, was elected Secretary General, supported by Ms. Lynn Tukei, Head of Public Relations and Communications at the Capital Markets Authority.
Ms. Shirley Birungi, Communications Manager at PostBank, was elected Director of Public Relations after a competitive race against Ms. Faith Kinani of the Investment for Industrial Transformation and Employment Programme and Mr. Brian Emorut from the Ministry of Tourism, Antiquities, and Wildlife.
The 49th AGM reaffirmed PRAU’s commitment to advancing professionalism, strengthening institutional capacity, and fostering collaboration across the public relations industry in Uganda.
