The Uganda U-19 national cricket team is set to host a competitive tri-series against Tanzania U-19 and Uganda A from March 2nd to March 8th at Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala. The tournament serves as the final preparation for the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup Africa Qualifiers, slated to take place in Nigeria.
This tri-series is expected to provide the Baby Cricket Cranes with invaluable match experience, helping them fine-tune their strategies, test different team combinations, and build momentum ahead of the crucial qualifiers. The series will also allow the young players to assess their strengths and improve on any areas that need refinement before heading for the continental showdown.
Tough Test Against Tanzania U-19 and Uganda A
Uganda U-19 will be facing two formidable opponents in the tri-series. Tanzania U-19, a well-organized regional rival, will pose a strong challenge, given their recent improvements in youth cricket development. Meanwhile, Uganda A, a squad composed of senior and emerging players from the domestic league, will provide the U-19 team with high-level competition, allowing them to experience a mix of youth and seasoned cricket talent.
Speaking about the importance of this series, Emmanuel Isaneez, the Uganda U-19 Head Coach, expressed confidence in the preparation process:
“This series is a vital part of our preparations for the U-19 World Cup Qualifiers. It gives our boys a chance to gain match fitness, assess their strengths, and refine their strategies before heading to Nigeria. We appreciate the support of Tanzania Cricket and our Uganda A side for making this possible.”
Under the leadership of Emmanuel Isaneez, the Uganda U-19 team has been undergoing rigorous training sessions, focusing on all aspects of the game, including batting, bowling, fielding, and mental preparedness. The squad features a blend of experienced youth players who have previously represented Uganda at different age levels, alongside promising newcomers eager to make a name for themselves on the international stage.
The home conditions at Lugogo Cricket Oval will provide an added advantage for the young Cranes as they look to adapt and fine-tune their skills in a familiar environment. Playing against a mix of domestic and international opponents will also expose them to different playing styles and tactical approaches.
