KCCA FC Apologises After Floodlight Failure Forces Abandonment of UPDF FC Match

Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) has apologised to its supporters, UPDF FC and other stakeholders following the interruption and subsequent abandonment of their match at MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo after the stadium floodlights failed.

In a club statement, KCCA FC expressed regret over the incident, which disrupted the fixture and disappointed fans who had turned up to watch the encounter.

The club attributed the interruption and abandonment of the match to a failure of the stadium floodlights, which affected the proceedings at the Lugogo-based facility.

“We sincerely apologise to our fans, supporters, UPDF FC, and everyone who turned up for the match for the inconvenience and disappointment caused by this incident,” the club said.

The incident has raised concerns about the reliability of the stadium's lighting infrastructure and the importance of ensuring that match venues meet the operational requirements necessary for football fixtures, particularly those played under floodlights.

KCCA FC said it was treating the matter with the seriousness it deserved and would work with the relevant stakeholders to establish the circumstances surrounding the failure.

“The Club is treating the matter with the seriousness it deserves and will work with the relevant stakeholders to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statement reads.

The club's response signals its intention to establish what went wrong and work with the relevant parties to address the matter.

KCCA FC Awaits FUFA Guidance

KCCA FC also confirmed that it was awaiting further communication from the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) regarding the abandoned fixture and any subsequent decisions.

The federation is expected to provide guidance on the way forward for the match, including any decisions concerning its status and possible rescheduling, subject to the applicable competition regulations.

However, the club did not announce a new date for the fixture or indicate whether the match would be replayed or resumed. Those details remain subject to further communication from the relevant football authorities.

The absence of an immediate resolution leaves supporters of both clubs waiting for clarity on how the disrupted fixture will be handled.

Club Thanks Supporters

Despite the disappointment, KCCA FC thanked its supporters and other stakeholders for their patience and understanding as the club works to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The club also pledged to communicate further developments through its official channels.

The incident underscores the importance of reliable stadium infrastructure in ensuring the smooth running of domestic football competitions. Floodlighting is particularly critical for evening fixtures, where any technical failure can interrupt play and affect players, officials, supporters and the overall matchday experience.

For KCCA FC and UPDF FC, attention will now turn to the next communication from FUFA and the measures needed to prevent similar disruptions in future fixtures.

The club has not yet provided further details about the cause of the floodlight failure or the specific corrective measures to be undertaken.

As the football community awaits an official decision on the abandoned match, KCCA FC has reiterated its commitment to working with the relevant stakeholders to establish the facts and keep supporters informed of any developments.
