The National Council for Higher Education is reviewing the application for the University Charter of St. Lawrence and soon it shall be recommended to His Excellence the president of Uganda after approval and hence grant the University Charter, Mary Okwakol the executive director UNCHE said in her remarks.

VP Jessica Alupo Promises a University Charter As New Chancellor For St. Lawrence University

KAMPALA - The Vice President of Uganda, Her Excellence retired Maj. Jessica Rose Epel Alupo has been installed as the third Chancellor for St. Lawrence University Uganda thereby flagging off over 450 graduands ready for employment.

In Kampala on Thursday, the occasion has been presided over by the former vice president of Uganda and the former Chancellor of the University , His Excellence, Hon. Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi who handed over the instruments of power.

St. Lawrence University was founded by the late Prof. Lawrence Mukiibi and established in 2007after being licensed by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education.

Prof. Charles Masaba, the University Vice Chancellor, described that this is the 13th University graduation ceremony themed," Entrepreneur Education a Path Way to Job Creation."

However, the board of directors, University Council and management highly appreciates the out going Chancellor and therefore appoints him as a member board of directors for the University, he indicated.

She included that It is a process and she can not give a time frame upon when, however the national council for higher education wishes to see st. Lawrence University attain a University Charter.

The newly installed Chancellor retired Maj. Gen Jessica Alupo in her speech has pledged to lead the team of St. Lawrence management and staff members to the National Council for Higher Education headquarters and fulfill the requirements for acquiring the University Charter.

" When I reach the national council for higher education, kindly treat me as Chancellor not as a vice president because we have to follow and respect all the procedures," she noted.

She also commended the former Chancellor HE. Hon. Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi for amplifying development of the University to date and being continuous guidance to her while she serves as the vice president of Uganda.

Alupo, also thanked the late Prof. Lawrence Mukiibi who is the founder of the University for being instrumental in the development of Uganda's education sector before his death and requested the attendees at the graduation ceremony to pay tribute by observing a moment of silence in his remembrance.
