Steven Masiga the Spokesperson Bukuuka has told the Nile chronicles that Hon Nandutu gave an emotional mitigation while in court ,which the judge should have factored into before sentencing her.

"Am a single mother with over seven children below the age of 15 years and they staying under my custody.Nandutu told court about her poor health in the form of severe diabetes and her Mother is ailing, Hon Nandutu reported to the anti -corruption court. She further reminded court to have mercy as a white collar and grant her a non custodial sentence."

As a cultural institution we request the president to demonstrate lenience to his former cabinet Minister and that is the prayer of Bamasaba clan chairmen and Bamasaba people.

Masiga said by analysis Nandutu has demonstrated sufficient remorse ,made the loss good by paying back and in equal measure accepted her culpability. In criminal Law there is along held maxim that guides that you would rather release 99 condemned prisoners than convicting one innocent person . Pardoning Hon Nandutu will not harm any criminology and penalogy doctrine since she has already been convicted.

Masiga further stated the judge also departed from the spirit of the law especially the fine as imposed by the Law which the judge dismissed as paltry, but that is the fine,as a cultural institution we are trying to promote alternative justice system including mediations, let us promote mediation whether in criminal matters or civil, even criminal law allows plea bargaining Masiga said .

Hon Nandutu imprisonment has sent shock waves across Uganda though with mixed reactions, with thousands of Ugandans on ticktock and other platforms interceding for her ,her sentence has gained traction because of her previous media presence.

Recently while in Manafwa clan meeting which attracted over 100 clan chairmen in which Umukuuka Jude Mike Mudoma was the chief Guest ,the Umukuuka promised to engage president Museveni over Hon Nandutu Pardon.

The spokesperson of Bugisu cultural institution Steven Masiga has told the this platform that the over 100 clan chairmen and executives will meet President Museveni over the issue of Hon Nandutu one of Bugisu legislators languishing in Luzira over corruption related charges .

Whereas we don't condone criminality as a cultural institution but on the issue of Hon Nandutu am already in touch with the powers that be Umukuuka told his clan chairmen in Manafwa,he promised to lead to see President Museveni over the same.

Masiga says their work as a cultural institution is to engage the Government on issues that affect Bugisu and the Hon Nandutu Pardon is such an issue .

The president is mandated under Art 121 of the constitution to pardon convicted persons on the advice of the advisory committee headed by the attorney General. The anti-corruption court recently convicted Hon Nandutu for mismanagement of a public office among other crimes.
