The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed that it has begun notifying presidential aspirants about the status of their submitted supporter lists, in line with Section 10 (3) of the Presidential Elections Act.

The Presidential Elections Act stipulates that a candidate’s nomination must be supported by at least 100 registered voters from no less than two-thirds of Uganda’s districts. With the country having 147 districts, this translates to 98 districts, requiring a minimum of 9,800 supporters. Each supporter must provide their name, signature, physical address, and voter registration number as laid out in Schedule 4 of the Act.
The law further bars any voter from supporting more than one candidate. Offenders are liable, upon conviction, to a fine not exceeding 24 currency points (UGX 480,000), imprisonment of up to one year, or both.
Julius Mucunguzi, Spokesperson of the Electoral Commission, emphasized that the verification exercise is a rigorous process designed to ensure compliance with the law. He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to conducting the entire nomination exercise in full adherence to Uganda’s electoral laws.
The EC also reminded aspirants that presidential nominations will take place on 23rd and 24th September 2025 at its newly designated premises in Lweza–Lubowa, Makindye Ssabagabo.
