FDC’s Nandala Mafabi Pledges Crop Insurance and Agricultural Reforms for Tororo Farmers

Tororo District Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi has pledged to introduce a national crop insurance scheme aimed at protecting farmers in Tororo District from the devastating impacts of drought, floods, and storms.

While addressing rallies in Pajwenda, Nagongera, Nyenyem, and Apetai, Mafabi said his administration would prioritize agriculture as the backbone of Uganda’s economy and shield farmers from climate-related losses that continue to push many households into poverty.

“Farmers are the backbone of this country, yet they suffer the most whenever nature turns against them,” Mafabi said. “My government will ensure every farmer is protected through crop insurance so that drought or floods no longer destroy livelihoods.”

Reviving Cooperatives and Restoring the Farmer’s Voice

Mafabi emphasized the revival of cooperative unions and the cooperative bank, describing them as essential pillars for empowering rural farmers and rebuilding the agricultural economy. He promised to provide interest-free loans to enable farmers to invest in modern tools, seeds, and irrigation systems.

He noted that Uganda has the capacity to transform its agriculture and rural economy but is hindered by corruption and weak institutional systems that have crippled development initiatives.

“Uganda has enough resources for everyone to prosper, but corruption has drained the system. We will fix the systems and ensure that the wealth of this country benefits its rightful owners—the people,” Mafabi said.

Tackling Water Scarcity and Unemployment

During his Tororo rallies, Mafabi also addressed the chronic water scarcity that affects both agricultural and domestic productivity in the district. He pledged to invest in water harvesting and irrigation infrastructure to ensure reliable water supply for farming communities.

He further reiterated his plan to empower the youth through start-up capital, promising to provide each graduate with UGX 1 million to launch small businesses and create jobs within months of his administration taking office.

“No young person should finish school and remain idle,” Mafabi declared. “We shall provide capital and ensure that our graduates become job creators, not job seekers.”

Building a Resilient Agricultural Economy

Mafabi’s proposals—crop insurance, cooperative revival, access to affordable credit, and youth employment—form part of his broader plan to stimulate economic growth and reduce inequality across Uganda’s rural regions.

He underscored that by protecting farmers and ensuring steady income streams, Uganda can achieve food security and sustainable national development.

“Agriculture is the foundation of our economy. When farmers thrive, the entire nation prospers,” Mafabi concluded.

A Promise of Change for Tororo and Beyond

The FDC candidate’s message was met with enthusiasm from residents who expressed hope that his pledges would bring relief to a region that has long struggled with agricultural losses and unemployment.

Mafabi’s tour of Tororo marks another milestone in his campaign as he continues to rally Ugandans around a vision of economic justice, accountability, and inclusive growth.
