From Liberation to Development: Museveni Reaffirms NRM Agenda in Namutumba

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has emphasized the National Resistance Movement’s enduring legacy of peace and development as he continued his campaign trail in Namutumba District, accompanied by First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni.

Addressing thousands of supporters, President Museveni reflected on Busoga’s historic contribution to Uganda’s liberation struggle, noting that the region remains an integral part of the NRM story. He recalled that Busoga was among the areas where the NRA waged key battles, and many cadres from the sub-region played pivotal roles in supporting the cause.

“I was representing our comrades who died in that struggle,” the President said. “Busoga cadres stood with us for long, including Nkooko and Ntale, who were executed in Jinja for supporting us. That is why the first brick we contributed to building Uganda is peace. NRM is synonymous with peace.”

Museveni stated that peace has been the foundation upon which all other achievements have been built, pointing out that without stability, neither socio-economic transformation nor infrastructural development would have been possible.

Highlights of Government Achievements

The President used the rally to remind residents of the progress made over the years, citing improvements in critical road infrastructure. He noted that the construction of the Nakalama–Busembatya–Tirinyi–Mbale road has eased movement significantly.

“Today you don’t have to pass through Tororo to reach Mbale. We built the Nakalama–Busembatya–Tirinyi–Mbale road. You go to Tororo only if you are going to Kenya,” he explained.

He further reassured the people of Namutumba about upcoming road projects that will enhance connectivity and stimulate economic activity within the district and across Busoga. Among these are:

Nabumali–Namutumba Road

Busembatya–Namakoko Road

Kaliro–Namutumba–Mazuba Road

Museveni revealed that these projects are scheduled for implementation in the next financial year, saying his Principal Private Secretary (PPS) would follow up closely with the district leadership to ensure that the pledges made are realized.

Next Campaign Destinations

The President concluded his address by announcing that he will take the NRM message to Buyende and Kaliro Districts next, as he continues to rally support ahead of the 2026 General Elections.

Museveni’s tour of Busoga region continues to underscore the ruling party’s commitment to security, infrastructure expansion, and wealth creation—pillars the President says will drive Uganda into a new era of socio-economic prosperity.
