Gashumba Urges Banyarwanda to Demand National Documents, Calls for Recorded Evidence of Discrimination

Prominent Human rights activist Frank Gashumba and the leader for Abavandimwe has called on Banyarwanda born in Uganda to demand their national documents from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Speaking on Monday, during a live broadcast on 89.2 FM, Gashumba urged those who have been denied passports and other identification due to their appearance to document their experiences by recording themselves after leaving the offices of internal Affairs.

His call follows President Yoweri Museveni’s executive order directing that all Ugandan born Banyarwanda be granted national documents.

However, he seeks reports that suggest that some officials continue to deny Banyarwanda access, prompting the president to seek evidence of non compliance.

"If they deny you your documents because of your appearance, step outside to a quiet place and record yourself explaining exactly what happened inside," Gashumba advised. "The president himself wants to see proof of why his directive is not being followed."

Gashumba, has rallied all affected individuals to come forward and present their cases, aiming to push for accountability and ensure that Banyarwanda many of whom have lived in Uganda for generations receive their rightful citizenship documentation.

This development reignites a long-standing issue concerning the recognition of Ugandan Banyarwanda, with many alleging systemic discrimination despite legal provisions affirming their nationality.

As pressure mounts, all eyes are on the government’s response and whether those responsible for defying the executive order will be held accountable.
