As Uganda marks its 63rd Independence Anniversary, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) National Treasurer, Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo, has extended warm Independence Day greetings to all Ugandans, urging citizens to uphold the enduring values of patriotism, integrity, hard work, and service to others as the foundation for sustainable national progress.

In her Independence message, Amb. Nekesa reflected on the significance of the day, reminding Ugandans that true greatness lies not only in the natural beauty of the country but also in the strength of its people’s values and actions.

“Independence reminds us that the greatness of a nation lies not only in the beauty of its land but in the values of its people — patriotism, integrity, hard work, and service to others. These values are the true essence of good governance and the foundation upon which sustainable progress is built,” she said.

The NRM Treasurer called upon citizens to draw inspiration from the selflessness of Uganda’s founding heroes, whose sacrifices laid the groundwork for a free and independent nation. She emphasized that Independence Day should not only be a celebration of the past but a renewal of collective commitment to national unity, honesty, and responsible leadership.

“Let this day renew in us the spirit of selflessness that inspired our forefathers — a spirit that calls each of us to put Uganda first, to lead with honesty, and to contribute meaningfully to the growth of our district,” Amb. Nekesa added.

Highlighting the importance of patriotism beyond ceremonial observance, she noted that true love for one’s country is expressed through daily acts of responsibility, justice, accountability, and inclusiveness. Amb. Nekesa underscored that these values are key to preserving Uganda’s hard-earned independence and achieving a brighter future for all.

“As we celebrate, let us remember that patriotism is not just love for our country, but a daily commitment to uphold justice, accountability, and inclusiveness in all we do. Let us stand firm in preserving our independence by acting responsibly and working together for a better tomorrow,” she said.

Concluding her message, Amb. Nekesa extended her best wishes to all Ugandans as they commemorate 63 years of self-rule, praying for continued peace, unity, and prosperity under the leadership of the National Resistance Movement.

“May God bless NRM. May God bless Uganda,” she concluded.

Uganda gained its independence from British colonial rule on 9th October 1962, and since then, the country has continued to celebrate the milestone as a symbol of freedom, resilience, and the pursuit of national development. This year’s Independence celebrations focus on strengthening patriotism and sustainable development, values that Amb. Nekesa emphasized as central to Uganda’s continued progress.
