Hon. Simon Mulongo, the Minister of State for Gender, Labour and Social Development in charge of Employment and Industrial Relations, has officially taken oath as an Ex Officio Member of Parliament, marking a significant milestone in his continued service to the country.

The swearing-in ceremony took place this morning at Parliament and was witnessed by several government officials and leaders. The Government Chief Whip, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, accompanied the newly sworn-in Ex Officio Members during the occasion, underscoring government’s commitment to strengthening leadership and coordination within Parliament.

Hon. Mulongo was among a number of Cabinet and State Ministers who took oath to formally assume their parliamentary responsibilities as Ex Officio Members. His inclusion reflects government’s confidence in his leadership and experience, particularly in labour relations, employment policy, and workers’ welfare.

Speaking after the ceremony, leaders emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Executive and Parliament in ensuring efficient service delivery and implementation of government programmes.

Other leaders who took oath included Hon. Sam Mayanja, Rt. Hon. Justine Kasule Lumumba, Hon. Tom Butime, Hon. Balaam Barugahara, Hon. Kiryowa Kiwanuka, Hon. Sanjay Tanna, Hon. Jonard Asiimwe, Hon. John Chrysostom Muyingo and Hon. Wilson Mbadi among others.

Also sworn in were Hon. Alice Kaboyo, Hon. Grace Mugasa, Hon. David Bahati, Hon. Beatrice Anywar, Hon. Monica Musenero, Hon. Cissy Mulondo, Hon. Amina Mukalazi and Hon. Magode Ikuya.

Hon. Mulongo’s swearing-in is expected to strengthen representation of labour and employment matters within Parliament, especially at a time when government continues to prioritize job creation, industrial harmony, workers’ rights, and economic transformation.

As Minister responsible for Employment and Industrial Relations, Hon. Mulongo has been actively involved in promoting dialogue between employers, workers, and government institutions, while supporting policies aimed at improving working conditions and expanding employment opportunities for Ugandans.

The oath-taking ceremony symbolizes the beginning of active parliamentary participation for the Ex Officio Members, who are expected to contribute to debate, policy formulation, and implementation of government programmes in line with national development priorities.
