Umar’s coaching journey has been both dynamic and impactful. He first came into the spotlight with Malakia Sports Club in the South Sudan Super League, where he led the team to a remarkable runners-up finish. However, his most significant success came with Yei Joint Stars Women’s Team, where he steered them to back-to-back South Sudan Women’s League titles in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons.
Additionally, his triumphs with Superstar FC in Bor, including victories in the South Sudan Cup, showcased his ability to bring out the best in underdog teams and compete successfully at national level. His influence has extended beyond silverware, having nurtured several young talents from the West Nile region, many of whom have since earned call-ups to the South Sudan National Team.
As a former footballer himself, Umar brings firsthand understanding of the game, complemented by a deep operational knowledge of FUFA, CAF, and FIFA protocols. His strategic planning, combined with a strong grasp of scouting and talent development, aligns with Maroons FC’s long-term vision to build a sustainable, competitive squad.
Umar is also academically accomplished, holding a degree in Business Administration and a diploma in Purchasing and Supply Management, making him not just a technical leader, but also a well-rounded professional capable of contributing to broader club operations.
Umar’s appointment comes with a clear show of confidence and structure from Maroons FC. He will be supported by a strong technical bench that combines experience, energy, and tactical know-how:
Mohammad Senfuma – First Assistant Coach
Simon Peter Ojok – Second Assistant Coach
Maxwell Okello – Fitness and Conditioning Coach
Ken Rogers Tezigwa – Goalkeeping Coach
Stephen Ekidu – Returns to strengthen the technical staff
Together, this team is expected to reinvigorate the club’s playing style and deliver results that match the ambition of the board, players, and fans.
