NRM Chapter Fronts Tebakor Jimmy Prince in Makerere Guild Race After Intense Primaries
The unveiling ceremony took place on Thursday at the NRM Secretariat located at Plot 10, Kyadondo Road in Kampala, where the chapter leadership formally introduced Mr. Tebakor to the NRM Deputy Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Namayanja Rose Nsereko.
The NRM Chapter at Makerere University has officially unveiled Mr. Tebakor Jimmy Prince as its Guild Presidential candidate ahead of the forthcoming April guild elections at Makerere University.
According to the Chapter Chairman, the endorsement followed what he described as intense and competitive internal elections, culminating in a unified decision to front Tebakor as the party’s flag bearer in the highly anticipated guild race.
Call for Unity and Discipline
While receiving the candidate, Namayanja commended the chapter members for demonstrating maturity and cohesion throughout the internal process. She applauded the students for rallying behind a single candidate, describing the move as a sign of unprecedented unity and strategic organization within the university chapter.
“I am happy for the unprecedented unity and togetherness of consolidating all your support to the flag bearer,” she noted, urging members to avoid standing as independent candidates, a practice she said weakens party structures and divides support.
Namayanja further expressed appreciation to young people across the country for their continued mobilization efforts in support of the NRM and President Yoweri Museveni. She described the youth’s contribution to party activities and electoral processes as instrumental and encouraging to the party leadership.
The Secretariat leadership reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Makerere chapter throughout the campaign period, pledging facilitation and guidance to ensure a strong showing in the guild polls.
"Our role is to facilitate chapter activities and guide where necessary,” she emphasized.
Tebakor Pledges Overwhelming Victory
In his remarks, Mr. Tebakor Jimmy Prince expressed gratitude to the chapter members and the party leadership for the trust placed in him. He assured the Secretariat of what he described as an overwhelming victory in next month’s elections, pledging to run a campaign anchored on unity, student engagement, and disciplined mobilization.
He called on members to remain focused and united as they prepare to face off with candidates from other political formations and independent contenders within the university.
Youth Leadership and National Vision
Also addressing the students was the Chairman of the National Youth Council, Hon. Daniel Ongom, who echoed the call for unity and patriotism.
Ongom described Makerere University as a microcosm of the nation, noting that many leaders who shape Uganda’s political, economic, and social landscape often emerge from its halls.
“Makerere is Uganda summarized,” he remarked. “Young leaders must promote patriotism, unity, and the message of wealth creation among their peers.”
He encouraged the students to view the guild elections not merely as campus politics, but as a training ground for national leadership and responsible citizenship.
Road to April Guild Elections
With the unveiling now complete, attention shifts to the broader campaign season as various political chapters and independent aspirants intensify preparations for the April polls.
For the NRM Chapter at Makerere, the focus remains on consolidating support, maintaining internal cohesion, and translating party structures into electoral success at one of Uganda’s most politically vibrant institutions.
The upcoming guild elections are expected to draw significant interest, given Makerere University’s historic role in shaping national discourse and producing influential leaders across generations.
