KAMONKOLI – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has intensified its grassroots mobilisation campaign ahead of the 2026 Local Council elections, with the party's National Treasurer, Hon. Ambassador Barbara Nekesa Oundo, leading the Bukedi Sub-region mobilisation team during an entry meeting held at Marple Cottages in Kamonkoli.

Hon. Ambassador Nekesa, who is serving as the Bukedi Sub-region Team Leader, was accompanied by the Bukedi Sub-regional Coordinator, Mr. Rogers Mulindwa, the NRM Senior Manager for Communication and Media, alongside members of the regional mobilisation team.

The meeting has brought together NRM leaders from across the Bukedi Sub-region, including Members of Parliament, district and constituency party leaders, local government leaders, and other key stakeholders to align strategies ahead of the forthcoming Local Council elections.

The engagement is focused on strengthening party structures at the grassroots, reviewing mobilisation plans, enhancing coordination among party leaders, and ensuring that NRM supporters are fully prepared to participate in the electoral process.

Party leaders will discuss the importance of unity, discipline, and effective organisation as the NRM seeks to consolidate its support across villages, parishes, and sub-counties in the sub-region.

As she is set to address the gathering, Ambassador Barbara Nekesa will underscore the significance of grassroots elections in strengthening the party's organisational structures and ensuring effective leadership at the village level. She will encourage leaders to work collectively, engage communities, and promote peaceful participation throughout the electoral process.

The meeting also provides an opportunity for leaders to harmonise mobilisation activities, address challenges affecting local structures, and reaffirm the party's commitment to transparent, inclusive, and well-coordinated elections.

Mr. Rogers Mulindwa emphasises the need for continuous engagement with party members and local communities, noting that effective communication and coordinated mobilisation remain critical in ensuring a successful electoral exercise.

The Bukedi meeting forms part of a nationwide mobilisation programme launched by the NRM Secretariat, where senior party leaders have been deployed to different regions to oversee preparations, strengthen party structures, monitor mobilisation activities, and support local leaders ahead of the Local Council elections.

The ongoing regional engagements are expected to reinforce the party's grassroots network while ensuring that all structures remain active and ready for the forthcoming elections, which are regarded as a critical foundation for the NRM's broader electoral strategy.

The NRM continues to urge all party members in Bukedi and across the country to actively participate in the Local Council elections and support efforts aimed at strengthening democratic participation and effective grassroots leadership.
