NRM's Medina Calls for Mass Support of Party Candidates in LC1 Polls

ARUA CITY, WEST NILE — The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Director of Finance and Administration, Hajjat Medina Naham Ojale, has urged Ugandans to turn up in large numbers and vote for NRM flag bearers in the forthcoming Local Council (LC1) Chairperson elections, saying grassroots leaders elected on the ruling party ticket will be better positioned to implement President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni's manifesto.

Medina made the call on Saturday in Arua City after supervising the successful Village Women Council elections in the West Nile Sub-region, where she served as the NRM Team Leader.

She said the strong performance of NRM candidates in the Village Women Council elections was a reflection of the confidence Ugandans have placed in the party's programmes and leadership, urging supporters to consolidate the gains by voting for the party's candidates in the LC1 elections.

"I urge our people, not only in West Nile but across Uganda, to turn up in large numbers and vote for all NRM flag bearers. It is the NRM manifesto that Ugandans voted for and the ideas of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni that they endorsed. Those ideas can only be effectively implemented when leaders at every level are working from the same manifesto," Medina said.

She emphasised that Local Council leaders play a critical role in translating government programmes into tangible benefits at the community level, given their close interaction with citizens and their role in coordinating grassroots development initiatives.

According to Medina, electing leaders who share the NRM's vision would help strengthen coordination between communities and higher levels of government, making it easier to mobilise residents to participate in programmes aimed at improving household incomes, service delivery and socio-economic transformation.

The NRM Director of Finance and Administration also commended voters and party supporters in West Nile for participating in the Village Women Council elections, describing the exercise as an important step in strengthening democratic participation and the party's grassroots structures.

She urged NRM supporters to maintain unity and discipline as the country prepares for the LC1 elections, while encouraging candidates to focus on mobilising voters and presenting their programmes to communities.

The LC1 elections are expected to be closely watched as they will determine the leadership of villages, the lowest administrative and political units in Uganda. The elected leaders will be responsible for representing residents, supporting community mobilisation and contributing to the implementation of governmentn programmes at the grassroots.

Medina's appeal comes amid intensified NRM mobilisation activities across the country as the party seeks to consolidate its presence at the village level. Party leaders have repeatedly stressed the importance of strong grassroots structures in ensuring effective implementation of government programmes and maintaining close contact with citizens.

In West Nile, the NRM has been conducting mobilisation and coordination activities across the sub-region ahead of the village-level elections. Party leaders have urged supporters to remain united and participate actively in the electoral process.

Medina said the successful conduct of the Village Women Council elections should serve as motivation for voters to participate in the LC1 polls and exercise their democratic right.

She further called upon voters to carefully consider candidates based on their ability to serve their communities and support the implementation of programmes that are intended to improve the livelihoods of Ugandans.

The NRM leadership has maintained that effective service delivery and development require cooperation between elected leaders at different levels of government. Medina therefore urged voters to elect leaders who, in her view, can work in harmony with the broader government development agenda.

The LC1 elections will mark another important stage in the ongoing grassroots electoral process, with political parties and candidates expected to intensify mobilisation efforts as voting day approaches.
