The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, this afternoon hosted the newly elected National Resistance Movement (NRM) youth leaders and flag bearers at her residence, in a meeting that underscored the indispensable role of young people in shaping Uganda’s future.

The interaction focused on the youth’s central role in accelerating socio-economic transformation, given that they constitute the majority of Uganda’s population. Speaker Among emphasized that the country’s prosperity hinges on the active participation and innovative contributions of young leaders who must work hand in hand with government to advance development programs.

“As leaders, you must understand that the responsibility of transforming our country is in your hands. The youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow—they are leaders of today, and Uganda’s progress depends on how effectively you mobilize and participate,” she told the gathering.

In her capacity as the NRM’s 2nd National Vice Chairperson, Among used the platform to rally the young leaders towards unity, discipline, and loyalty to the party. She called on them to be at the forefront of mobilization in their respective regions, amplifying the message of the NRM’s achievements in peace, stability, and development.

Among further urged the leaders to stand firmly behind the party’s National Chairman and President of Uganda, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, as the country prepares for the 2026 general elections. She noted that continuity of leadership under President Museveni guarantees stability and provides a foundation for consolidating the socio-economic gains the nation has made.

“The NRM is a mass party that has delivered for Ugandans over the years. Our National Chairman, President Museveni, has consistently provided visionary leadership. As young leaders, your duty is to protect this legacy and ensure that our people continue to trust the Movement with the country’s future,” she stressed.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for the youth flag bearers to share their perspectives, challenges, and expectations as they take on leadership responsibilities. Many pledged their commitment to mobilize support for the NRM at the grassroots level, highlighting the importance of mentorship, empowerment, and inclusivity in the party’s structures.

Political analysts note that the Speaker’s engagement with the newly elected youth leaders is part of the NRM’s broader strategy to consolidate its support base ahead of the 2026 polls. With more than 70 percent of Uganda’s population below the age of 35, the youth vote is expected to play a decisive role in determining the country’s political direction.

By directly engaging the young flag bearers, Speaker Among reaffirmed the NRM’s recognition of the youth as not only a demographic majority but also a driving force for Uganda’s transformation agenda.
