Teso NRM Mobilisation Drive Gains Momentum as Village Barazas Reach Communities

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has intensified its grassroots mobilisation campaign across the Teso Sub-region, with Village Barazas held in several districts on Wednesday ahead of the Village Women’s Council and LC I chairperson elections.

In Soroti City, party members gathered at Obute A Cell at Arapai Primary School, where Soroti City NRM Women’s League Chairperson Rachel Francis Adyango urged voters to elect committed NRM LC I chairpersons who can work closely with Women’s Councils to ensure communities benefit from government programmes.

In Kumi District, Village Barazas and mobilisation meetings were held in Wulo, Asinge and Okutot villages in Tisai Sub-county. NRM flag bearers pledged to strengthen grassroots leadership, promote unity and improve access to government programmes.

Mobilisation activities were also reported in Ogooma and Kumi sub-counties, while other areas used the meetings to orient LC I flag bearers on the electoral process.

In Amuria District, leaders in Awojangur Village called for unity and urged members to support NRM candidates in the forthcoming elections. Similar messages were delivered by party leaders across the district.

In Kaberamaido District, several villages successfully conducted the Barazas, providing members with an opportunity to discuss preparations for the elections. Although some meetings were postponed due to competing activities, including markets, burials and official engagements, local leaders pledged to complete the remaining meetings before polling day.

Across Teso, the Barazas also provided an opportunity to verify party registers, popularise NRM flag bearers and encourage voter participation.

Party leaders maintained that strong grassroots unity will be critical to consolidating the NRM's support ahead of the Village Women’s Council elections on July 23 and LC I chairperson elections on July 28.

The Village Barazas are part of the NRM's nationwide grassroots mobilisation campaign being conducted across more than 72,000 villages as the party strengthens its structures ahead of the village-level elections.
