62 LC1 Chairpersons Unopposed in Budaka District, Says NRM Treasurer Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo

Budaka District — The National Resistance Movement (NRM) National Treasurer and Bukedi Sub-region Team Leader, Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo, has revealed that 62 candidates for LC1 Chairperson positions in Budaka District are unopposed ahead of the Local Council I elections scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, 2026.

According to figures released by the NRM team, the unopposed candidates are spread across 20 sub-counties and town councils, with 323 villages covered in the district. The figures indicate that 62 LC1 Chairperson candidates have no opponents in their respective villages.

The data shows that Budaka Town Council has three unopposed candidates out of 21 villages, while Kaderuna has five unopposed candidates from 16 villages. Budaka Sub-county has one unopposed candidate, while Lyama Town Council has two.

Nansanga recorded six unopposed candidates out of 16 villages, while Tademeri has three unopposed candidates from 17 villages. Naboa Town Council and Kamonkoli have no unopposed candidates, while Kamonkoli Town Council has one. Other areas registering unopposed LC1 candidates include Mugiti, with one candidate; Kadimukoli, three; Kakoli, six; Katira, six; Kameruka, five; Kabuna, six; and Kakule, six.

The figures further show that Iki-Iki Town Council has no unopposed candidate, while Iki-Iki Sub-county has two. Kachomo Town Council has four unopposed candidates, with Kachomo Sub-county recording two.

The figures highlight the level of competition in the district's village-level elections, while also pointing to areas where candidates have secured uncontested positions. The LC1 elections are expected to give voters an opportunity to choose leaders who will serve as the first point of contact between communities and local government structures.

The development comes as political parties and candidates conclude their mobilisation and campaign activities ahead of polling day. The NRM leadership has continued to encourage its supporters to participate actively in the elections and support the party's flag bearers.

Amb. Nekesa Oundo's disclosure is also part of the wider mobilisation campaign in the Bukedi Sub-region, where the NRM has been intensifying efforts to rally its supporters ahead of the LC1 elections.

With 62 LC1 Chairperson candidates unopposed in Budaka District, attention now shifts to the contested positions, where voters are expected to exercise their democratic right and elect leaders to represent their villages.

The LC1 Chairpersons play a critical role in grassroots administration, community mobilisation, local dispute resolution and linking residents with higher levels of government. Their leadership is therefore considered important in strengthening service delivery and promoting community development at the village level.

As Budaka District prepares for the July 28 elections, the NRM leadership is urging its supporters to turn up in large numbers and participate peacefully in the electoral process, while respecting the guidelines issued by the Electoral Commission.
