Umukuuka Mudoma Set to Host Lavish Celebration as He Marks Third Coronation Anniversary

His Highness the Umukuuka of the Bamasaaba people, Jude Mike Mudoma, is set to host thousands of his subjects and invited guests at a lavish celebration marking his third coronation anniversary on Friday, July 31, 2026.

The celebration, according to the spokesperson of the Bamasaaba Cultural Institution, Hon. Steven Masiga, will provide an opportunity for the Umukuuka to interact with his subjects and celebrate the milestones achieved during his three years at the helm of the cultural institution.

Masiga told this publication that the anniversary celebration will be held at Mt. Elgon Hotel in Mbale City, bringing together invited guests from different sectors of society.

He said attendance at the event will be strictly by invitation, with traditional and cultural leaders from Uganda and beyond expected to grace the occasion.

The event is also expected to attract members of the business community, representatives of the media fraternity, invited Members of Parliament and selected local government leaders, among other distinguished guests.

According to Masiga, the celebration is being supported by well-wishers from across the country who have expressed their commitment to the cultural institution and the development of the Bamasaaba community.

He added that a detailed list of individuals and organisations that have supported the function will be made public after the celebrations.

The third coronation anniversary comes at a significant moment for the Bamasaaba Cultural Institution, following a period of developments and efforts aimed at strengthening cultural unity, leadership and community transformation in Bugisu.

The Umukuuka was gazetted in August 2023, and the upcoming event marks the third anniversary celebration since his recognition and installation as the cultural leader of the Bamasaba people.

The anniversary is therefore expected to serve not only as a celebration of the Umukuuka's leadership but also as an opportunity to reflect on the journey of the institution and its contribution to the social, cultural and economic development of the Bamasaaba people.

A key highlight of the celebration will be the presentation of the Umukuuka's strategic plan for the Bamasaaba people. According to Masiga, the strategic plan is expected to outline the cultural institution's priorities and development agenda for the community in the coming years.

The Umukuuka is also expected to use the occasion to highlight some of the achievements registered under his leadership and share his vision for the future of the Bamasaaba people.

The presentation of the strategic plan is likely to provide a roadmap for addressing some of the key priorities affecting the Bamasaba community, while strengthening collaboration among cultural leaders, government, the private sector and other stakeholders.

The anniversary also comes shortly after the resolution of a long-running leadership dispute within the Bamasaba cultural institution through a consent judgment reached during mediation before the High Court. The development has been welcomed as an important step towards restoring unity and allowing the cultural institution to focus on its core mandate and the development of the Bamasaaba community.

The celebration on Friday is consequently expected to bring together various stakeholders in a spirit of unity and renewed commitment to the cultural and socio-economic transformation of the Bamasaba people.

For the Bamasaaba, the third coronation anniversary will be more than a ceremonial gathering.
