Nominations kickstart in Butaleja, candidate suggests joint campaigns

The Aspiring candidates for positions of: LCV and district councillor, have this Wednesday appeared in the Butaleja district Boardroom, to have their official clearance for candidature.

John Paul Osinde, the district Electoral Commission Registrar for Butaleja district, said that the turn up was high for the interested candidates, adding that they began nominations at 11:00AM, because the computer system had fluctuations initially.

He thanked the nominees who entered early morning for the cause and waited for long but promised better services on Thursday and beyond. The returning officer, however, called for unity among the contestants, because Politics is a game.

Mohammed Higenyi, one of the candidates for district Councillor  Nawanjofu sub county, on Independent ticket said that his focus shall base on improved Agriculture Practice. He emphasized that he shall source technical agriculture experts to boost the local community members of Nawanjofu, who apparently, apply unskilled farming  so as to kick out poverty.

Barbra Waggwa, another nominee for Female district Councillor for Budumba sub county, said that she will effect transparent representation, with necessary regular consultations to the voters for better services.

Other candidates who were nominated include: Ayubu Gali for Naweyo sub county, Augustine Damba for Kachonga sub county, David Butoto for Bufuja-Kachonga town council, Beatrice Malwa Namunyole(radio presenter), for Mazimasa sub county, Luwongoya Fauza for Busolwe, Brenda Nanjala Wakoli for Busaba, Perudasi  Namwane for Busabi sub county, and Moses Hiire Brown, for Busaba sub county.

By press time, Joseph Muyonjo, and Fagayo Fagayo, had presented their papers for verification ahead of their nomination on Thursday or Friday for the LCV bid.

Meanwhile, Milton Malingha, Aspiring candidate for LCV chair, who hopes to be nominated tomorrow (Thursday), suggested for joint campaigns like the case was in the NRM party primary campaigns. Malingha, claimed that moving together and articulating issues in the presence of opponents helps the voters to choose the right people for leadership.

In another development, Sam Wegulo, commonly known as "Nyanya",  candidate for district Councillor, Busabi sub county, expressed his deep concern over open defecation in Busabi sub county. He disclosed that the largest population of Busabi, have no pit latrines necessitating an action. According to the candidate, some of the pits filled up due to shallowness, and heavy rains. He, nevertheless, called for unity among the Busabi people ahead of the general elections.
