NRM National Treasurer Urges Unity and Discipline as Busia Mobilization Teams Set Off
The initiative, which is part of the broader NRM village-based campaign strategy, seeks to mobilize, sensitize, and rally voters behind the NRM Presidential Flag Bearer, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and all other officially endorsed NRM flag bearers across the country.
BUSIA, Uganda – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) National Treasurer, Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo, on Monday flagged off the party’s village mobilization teams in Mayombe and Lumino sub-counties of Busia District, as part of a grassroots campaign drive aimed at consolidating support for the ruling party ahead of the 2026 General Elections.
The initiative, which is part of the broader NRM village-based campaign strategy, seeks to mobilize, sensitize, and rally voters behind the NRM Presidential Flag Bearer, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and all other officially endorsed NRM flag bearers across the country.
Addressing enthusiastic supporters and party structures at the flag-off ceremony, Amb. Nekesa emphasized the importance of unity, discipline, and peaceful political engagement within the Busia community. She urged all Ugandans to embrace tolerance and mutual respect throughout the electioneering period, noting that political competition should never divide communities that share common development goals.
“As NRM, we believe in peaceful engagement and democratic participation. Let us show maturity in how we campaign and handle our political differences. Uganda is for all of us, and peace is our collective responsibility,” Amb. Nekesa remarked.
She further appealed to all NRM-leaning independents to desist from running parallel campaigns against officially endorsed party flag bearers, warning that such actions weaken the party’s cohesion and betray its principles of unity and collective strength.
“You cannot claim to support the NRM and at the same time undermine it by contesting against its official candidates. That is self-defeating. If you truly love the party and President Museveni, you must uphold loyalty and discipline within the movement,” she cautioned.
Amb. Nekesa reiterated that the village mobilization programme is designed to empower local structures to articulate the NRM’s achievements in peace, infrastructure, education, health, and economic transformation — sectors that have greatly improved under President Museveni’s leadership. She called on the mobilization teams to engage communities in door-to-door campaigns, hold barazas, and promote government programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga.
The flag-off event was attended by local leaders, NRM district officials, youth and women league representatives, and hundreds of residents who pledged to stand firm with the NRM in the forthcoming elections.
As the campaigns intensify, Busia District is expected to play a critical role in delivering overwhelming support for President Museveni and the party’s candidates across various elective positions, reaffirming the NRM’s deep roots in the eastern region.
