PLU General Secretary Warns Members Against Extortion, Criminality and Unauthorized Activities

The General Secretary of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Hon. Twalla Fadil, has issued a strong warning to members against engaging in extortion, criminal activities, physical attacks and other forms of misconduct, emphasizing that the organisation will not tolerate behaviour that violates the law.

In a statement issued after observing what he described as a number of issues since assuming office, Twalla said PLU is firmly founded on the rule of law and that all members are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with the organisation's principles and values.

"PLU is an organization firmly built on the rule of law and all we do is guided by the strict tenets of the law. We will not tolerate or condone any breach of the law by any member," Twalla said.

He specifically cautioned PLU members against engaging in extortion, participating in criminal activities and physically attacking fellow PLU members or any other Ugandan.

The General Secretary also warned members against wearing military or paramilitary-style uniforms, saying such conduct is contrary to the values and principles of the organisation.

According to Twalla, any member found engaging in such acts will face appropriate disciplinary action.

The statement comes as the PLU leadership seeks to reinforce discipline and accountability among its membership, with Twalla stressing that the organisation expects its members to uphold high standards of integrity and respect for the law.

The General Secretary further addressed the issue of activities being organised in the name of PLU without proper authorisation. He said no individual or group is permitted to organise, convene or announce any event, programme or activity on behalf of the organisation without prior knowledge and, where necessary, explicit clearance from the Office of the General Secretary, the PLU Chairman, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, or members of the Central Committee.

Twalla's directive is intended to ensure that activities conducted in the name of PLU are properly coordinated and aligned with the organisation's leadership structures and official programmes.

He called upon all members to remain disciplined and committed to the organisation's values as PLU continues its efforts to build what he described as a credible and respected organisation.

"We urge all members to uphold the highest standards of discipline, integrity, and respect for the law as we continue to build a credible and respected organization and all its leaders," he said.

At the same time, Twalla extended an olive branch to members who may have disagreements or grievances, encouraging them to use the organisation's internal structures to seek solutions rather than resorting to confrontation or violence.

He said the PLU Secretariat remains open to receiving complaints and differences among members, promising to work with those concerned to find ways of resolving their grievances.

"For those who have differences, the secretariat is open. We want a united PLU and I am available to receive your complaints so that we can find a way of solving them. Fighting is never a solution," Twalla said.

The General Secretary's message places emphasis on unity, internal dialogue and adherence to the law, while warning that disciplinary measures will be taken against members whose conduct undermines the organisation's principles.

The statement is also likely to serve as a reminder to PLU members and supporters that the organisation's leadership expects all activities carried out in its name to be coordinated through the established leadership structures. 

Twalla concluded by urging members to work together in promoting discipline, integrity and unity, saying these principles are essential to strengthening PLU and enhancing its credibility among Ugandans.
