President Museveni Concludes Rwenzori and Tooro Campaign Trail with Call for Peace and Wealth Creation in Kyenjojo

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Tuesday afternoon concluded his campaign rallies in the Rwenzori and Tooro sub-regions with a major address in Kyenjojo District, where he received a massive and enthusiastic turnout. The rally marked the final stop in a series of engagements across the region, during which the President emphasized the historic value of peace, the need for sustained security, and the central role of household wealth creation in transforming Uganda.

In his address, President Museveni reminded residents of Kyenjojo—and the wider Rwenzori and Tooro region—of the turbulent years before the NRM came into power. He highlighted that for decades, insecurity regularly swept across the borders from the Democratic Republic of Congo, threatening the livelihoods and stability of local communities.

He noted that the 40 years of continuous peace under the NRM are not accidental but a result of deliberate state-building efforts.

“The elders remember the years of insecurity from across the Congo. For 40 years, the NRM has kept peace, and this peace must be protected,” he stated.

The President emphasized that peace remains the bedrock upon which all social and economic development must stand, calling on citizens to remain vigilant in preserving this hard-earned stability.

Fort Portal–Kijura Road to Boost Regional Connectivity

Addressing the infrastructure concerns raised by community members, President Museveni announced that government will work on the Fort Portal–Kijura road. He explained that once completed, the road will significantly enhance mobility, open up rural areas for investment, and link farmers to markets more efficiently.

He described the road project as a strategic intervention aimed at “unlocking the region,” enabling agriculture, tourism, and trade to flourish further within Tooro and the neighbouring districts.

“Uganda Was Rich Before Roads and Electricity” – The Call for Household Prosperity

In his message on wealth creation, President Museveni drew on a historical anecdote to demonstrate that Uganda’s potential for prosperity is rooted in the productivity of its people rather than external factors.

He recounted the visit of explorer Henry Morton Stanley to Bunyoro in 1887, noting that Stanley found a society already abundant with cultivation and food security—long before the introduction of paved roads or electricity.

“Uganda was already rich, long before paved roads or electricity,” he said. “This proves that true prosperity comes from household wealth creation, and every family must enter the money economy.”

The President once again urged families to adopt the NRM’s wealth creation model, which encourages Ugandans to engage in commercial agriculture, agro-processing, and other productive enterprises that generate income and uplift livelihoods.

President Museveni reaffirmed that the NRM’s long-standing achievements in peace, infrastructure development, and economic empowerment form a solid foundation for Uganda’s next phase of transformation. He encouraged the people of Kyenjojo to continue supporting the NRM agenda, emphasizing that the stability and opportunities they enjoy today should be safeguarded and expanded.

As the campaign season advances, the President’s message in Kyenjojo stands out as both a reflection on Uganda’s progress and a strategic roadmap for the future—anchored on peace, productivity, and inclusive prosperity.
