Kibaale District, Bunyoro Sub-region —
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Tuesday evening launched his campaign trail in the Bunyoro Sub-region with a well-attended rally in Kibaale District, where he emphasized the NRM’s legacy of peace, unity, and steady socio-economic transformation.
Arriving from engagements in Kyenjojo earlier in the day, the President received a warm welcome from thousands of residents who expressed support for his message of continued stability and wealth creation.
Peace Restored Despite ADF Attempts
Addressing the crowd, President Museveni highlighted the resilience and effectiveness of Uganda’s security forces in safeguarding Bunyoro from external threats. He referenced the attempted ADF attacks in the Muzizi Forest, assuring the public that all hostile elements were successfully neutralized.
“Peace has been maintained here despite the ADF attacks in the Muzizi Forest, all of which our forces defeated,” he said. “This stability is the foundation of everything we have been able to achieve.”
National Unity at the Centre of NRM Governance
The President commended the Church of Owobusobozi Bisaka for promoting harmony among communities in the region. He reiterated that the NRM government does not differentiate Ugandans based on religious affiliation but builds its ideology on unity and shared national goals.
“In the NRM, we focus on unity, not religion,” he remarked. “Our mission is to unite Ugandans so that we can develop together.”
Infrastructure Transformation Across Bunyoro
President Museveni reminded residents of the tremendous progress in infrastructure development across the sub-region—development he said was once doubted by some communities. He noted that Bunyoro now boasts an expanding and modernized road network that has boosted mobility, trade, and access to services.
“From Kafu to Masindi and Busunju to Hoima, roads are now tarmacked everywhere,” he told the rally. “These investments show our commitment to ensuring balanced development across the country.”
Development vs. Wealth: A Message to Households
A key part of the President’s address focused on the difference between development and wealth, a distinction he continues to emphasize during his nationwide campaign. He explained that while government can build roads, extend electricity, and improve access to services, household wealth must come from personal initiative.
He shared the story of Mrs. Deziranta Tumusiime from Rubirizi District, who at 64 years old had never earned meaningful income despite living in a developed area with tarmac roads since 1963. It was only after receiving Shs 1 million through the Parish Development Model (PDM) that she was able to begin generating income.
“This shows clearly that development can exist, but wealth requires effort,” the President said. “Government creates the environment, but families must take advantage through enterprise selection and using PDM funds wisely.”
Residents Energized as Bunyoro Trail Begins
Local leaders, youth groups, women’s associations, farmers, and NRM mobilizers welcomed the President’s message, saying it resonates strongly with current community priorities—especially the push for commercial agriculture and improved household incomes.
They praised the ongoing road works, revived security presence, and government programs aimed at uplifting families from subsistence to the money economy.
A Strong Start to the Bunyoro Campaign Tour
The Kibaale rally marked the official start of President Museveni’s multi-day campaign tour of the Bunyoro Sub-region. The President is expected to hold rallies in several districts as he continues to outline the NRM’s agenda for peace consolidation, infrastructure expansion, and broad-based prosperity.
With enthusiastic support from residents and local leaders, the Tuesday evening rally set a strong tone for the rest of the campaign trail.
