President Museveni Rallies Support in Nakapiripirit, Highlights NRM Achievements in Karamoja

Nakapiripirit District, Karamoja Sub-region — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and First Lady Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni on Wednesday visited Nakapiripirit District as part of his ongoing campaign trail across the Karamoja Sub-region. The President’s visit aimed at mobilizing support for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ahead of the forthcoming general elections, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to consolidating peace and deepening development in the region.

Addressing thousands of residents gathered in Nakapiripirit Town Council, President Museveni expressed gratitude to the people of Karamoja for standing firm with the NRM throughout the years of transformation and peace-building.

“Maata Nakapiripirit, Maata Karamojong! Maama and I visited you today to rally support for the NRM and remind our people why we must continue supporting the Movement,” the President began, receiving loud cheers from the crowd.

He reminded the people of Karamoja that the peace they now enjoy was hard-earned and a product of the NRM’s consistent efforts to disarm communities and restore stability. “Peace in Karamoja was not easy to achieve. Some once believed guns were the solution, but I assured our people that the government would defend them — and we have fulfilled that promise. Today, the region enjoys peace and stability under the NRM,” Museveni said.

The President noted that lasting peace has opened the door for development in Nakapiripirit and the wider Karamoja region. He highlighted major infrastructure and social service investments made by the NRM government, which have transformed livelihoods and enhanced access to key services.

“Nakapiripirit now has roads, electricity, phones, and clean water in some villages. We have built several valley tanks, with bigger schemes like the Namalu Irrigation Project underway,” Museveni said.

He further outlined the progress made in education and healthcare, noting that the district currently boasts 27 primary schools, 7 secondary schools, one Health Centre IV, three Health Centre IIIs, and a functional X-ray facility at Tokora Health Centre IV. These developments, he said, are evidence of NRM’s long-term vision for equitable growth and service delivery.

“These achievements in roads, water, electricity, education, and health reflect what the NRM has done and will continue to do for Uganda. Our next phase of work is to ensure prosperity through wealth creation and industrialization,” the President emphasized.

The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, echoed the President’s message, commending the people of Nakapiripirit for embracing education and peace. She urged parents to keep children in school and make good use of government programs aimed at improving household incomes.

President Museveni’s visit to Nakapiripirit follows a series of campaign engagements in other districts of Karamoja, including Kaabong, Kotido, and Amudat, where he has been rallying support for the NRM and sharing the government’s development track record in the region.

The President reaffirmed his government’s commitment to sustaining the peace, improving livelihoods through irrigation and modern farming, expanding social services, and promoting industrial growth in Karamoja.

“NRM is a tested and trusted Movement that brings stability and transformation. We have moved from chaos to peace, from isolation to connection, and from dependency to productivity. Together, we shall continue to build a prosperous Uganda,” he concluded.
