Butaleja to Receive New Boreholes and Upgraded Roads, President Museveni Confirms

Butaleja District-

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has opened his day’s engagements with a rally in Butaleja district that revisited Uganda’s turbulent past while highlighting the progress achieved under the current government and outlining fresh commitments across infrastructure, agriculture, water access, and health services.

Addressing residents, the President noted that elders at the rally reminded him of earlier decades marked by cattle rustlers, rebel activities, and widespread insecurity. He said the relative stability Uganda enjoys today remains the bedrock upon which development continues to be built.

Peace as the Cornerstone of Progress

President Museveni emphasized that the country’s transformation would not have been possible without the restoration of peace.

“Our people told me of the difficult past—the cattle rustlers, the rebels, and the instability,” he said. “Today we have peace, and that is the foundation for everything else.”

He reiterated that peace has allowed the government to roll out national development plans, attract investment, and empower citizens to pursue economic activities without fear.

Major Roads Funded and Set for Construction

The President announced that funding has been secured for two critical road networks that will enhance connectivity and boost regional trade and mobility.

Tororo–Nagongera–Busolwe Road

“These roads will be worked on,” Museveni assured, noting that improved infrastructure is vital for transporting produce, accessing markets, and supporting economic growth in the region.

Rice Irrigation Schemes Strengthen Agricultural Productivity

During the visit, Museveni expressed satisfaction with the progress of rice irrigation initiatives in the area. He highlighted the positive impact of the Doho and Walala irrigation schemes, which continue to support thousands of farmers.

However, he cautioned farmers involved in wetlands-based cultivation. The President said government would guide those farming inside swamps to ensure agricultural productivity continues without compromising environmental conservation.

“We must protect the environment while keeping production,” he said, emphasizing the government’s ongoing efforts to balance economic interests with sustainable land use.

Safe Water Coverage Nears Completion

On water access, Museveni revealed significant achievements in the region’s safe water supply. Out of 443 villages, 418 already have clean water, representing over 94% coverage. The remaining 25 villages are slated to receive boreholes.

“This is part of our commitment to ensure every home has access to safe water,” he said, calling water a basic need and a critical enabler of public health.

Health Centre IIIs to Be Delivered to Remaining Sub-Counties

In the health sector, the President noted that only two sub-counties remain without Health Centre III facilities. He gave assurance that the government will establish these centers to close the existing gap and bring essential healthcare services closer to the community.

A Development Agenda Grounded in Stability

President Museveni’s rally message blended reflections on Uganda’s historical journey with a forward-looking development agenda. By underscoring milestones in peace, infrastructure, agriculture, water, and health, he positioned his commitments as part of a broader effort to consolidate progress and ensure equitable service delivery.

As the campaign continues, the President appealed to citizens to embrace peace, uphold unity, and take advantage of government programs aimed at transforming households and communities.
