Museveni Rallies Amolatar and Dokolo as Lango Sub-region Welcomes NRM’s “Protecting the Gains” Campaign
In Amolatar, NRM district chairperson Kamilo Olwit praised the President for what he called the “three fundamental gains” of peace, development, and wealth creation.

Amolatar / Dokolo — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer, on Wednesday pressed ahead with his 2026 presidential campaign trail in the Lango Sub-region, holding massive rallies in Amolatar and Dokolo districts. Thousands of enthusiastic supporters thronged the venues to hear the Head of State unveil the NRM’s 2026–2031 Manifesto under the theme “Protecting the Gains.”
In Amolatar, NRM district chairperson Kamilo Olwit praised the President for what he called the “three fundamental gains” of peace, development, and wealth creation.
“The seeds you are planting here today will germinate and spread to all parts of Uganda. You fought the LRA, stopped cattle rustling, gave us Lira University, and initiated the construction of Akii-Bua Stadium. You have also prioritized roads like Apac–Lira–Kamdini, and soon Amolatar will follow. These are the foundations of peace, development, and wealth creation that we must protect,” Olwit told the rally.
Adding her voice, Speaker of Parliament and NRM Second Vice Chairperson (Female), Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, commended the President for restoring peace and creating an enabling environment for prosperity in the once war-ravaged region.
“Your Excellency, in the past it would take us a week to travel to Soroti because of insecurity. Today, Uganda is peaceful and our people are working for their prosperity. We thank you for empowering Northern Uganda,” she said.
When he took to the podium, President Museveni underlined the need to distinguish between dongo lobo (infrastructure and public development) and lonyo (household wealth creation). While acknowledging achievements such as schools, health centers, electricity, and modern roads, he emphasized that the real transformation lies in helping households transition into the money economy.
“At Independence, only 9% of Ugandan homes were in the money economy. By 2013, 68% were still in subsistence. That is why I started Operation Wealth Creation and later the Parish Development Model (PDM). We must defeat poverty at the household level. Dongo lobo is good, but what really matters is lonyo—your own wealth,” the President stressed.
The President further pledged to recruit 50,000 new teachers to eliminate shortages in government schools, abolish illegal school charges, and intensify the fight against corruption, especially theft of drugs and PDM funds.
Later in Dokolo, President Museveni announced plans to upgrade the road from Dokolo to Namasale, which will cut direct mileage to Kampala and ease connectivity for residents. He again drove home his message on wealth creation.
“This is all dongo lobo—roads, schools, electricity. But the real battle is lonyo. Even in Baralege where I live, I may not have tarmac roads, but I have cows, coffee, fruits. That is the wealth we want for every homestead: food security and income,” he told the crowd.
To demonstrate the impact of the Parish Development Model, the President cited the success story of Apio Piki, a farmer from Lira District, who turned a modest maize project into millions of shillings and later expanded into livestock farming.
“She told me she had never handled one million shillings in her life. Today she owns land and animals. That is what PDM is about—empowering families to enter the money economy,” Museveni noted.
At both rallies, NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda, Hamson Obua, and Secretary General, Richard Todwong, hailed Museveni’s leadership for securing peace and spearheading socio-economic transformation in the region. They urged the people of Lango to rally behind the NRM to consolidate the progress achieved over the years.
The President will continue his campaign trail across the Lango Sub-region tomorrow, rallying communities to safeguard the peace and infrastructure already secured while embracing wealth creation as the most sustainable path to prosperity.
