President Museveni Endorses Obua as NRM Flag Bearer for Ajuri County
The handover marked a moment of endorsement for Obua, who currently serves as the Government Chief Whip in Parliament and NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda. Thousands of jubilant supporters attended the rally, waving party colors and chanting slogans in support of both Museveni and Obua.

Alebtong, Uganda - The National Resistance Movement (NRM) National Chairperson and President of Uganda, H.E. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, on Thursday officially handed over the NRM party flag to Hon. Denis Hamson Obua as the party’s flag bearer for Ajuri County Member of Parliament. The colourful ceremony took place at the Alebtong District Headquarters during a massive presidential campaign rally.
In his address, President Museveni commended Obua for his dedication, loyalty, and service to the party and the people of Northern Uganda. He urged residents of Ajuri County and the entire Lango Sub-region to rally behind Obua in the forthcoming 2026 general elections, highlighting his leadership experience and contribution to advancing government programs.
“Hon. Obua has been a consistent and reliable leader in both government and the party structures. He has stood firm in supporting our programs on wealth creation, development, and peace. I call upon the people of Ajuri to vote for him and continue strengthening the NRM’s legacy in this region,” Museveni told the cheering crowd.
Hon. Obua, while receiving the flag, pledged to remain steadfast in championing the aspirations of the people of Ajuri County under the NRM’s vision of socio-economic transformation. He expressed gratitude to President Museveni and the party leadership for entrusting him with the mandate to represent Ajuri County once again.
“This endorsement is not just for me, but for the people of Ajuri County who have consistently stood with the NRM. I commit to working even harder to ensure our communities continue benefiting from government programs such as the Parish Development Model, education, health, and infrastructure development,” Obua said.
The event also doubled as part of President Museveni’s campaign trail in Alebtong District, where he continued to unpack the NRM 2026–2031 Manifesto under the theme “Protecting the Gains.” He urged voters to guard the achievements of the NRM government in ensuring peace, security, and economic stability, while also promising intensified efforts in tackling corruption and promoting prosperity at the household level.
The endorsement of Obua further consolidates NRM’s political dominance in the Lango Sub-region, where the party has maintained significant support over the years. Political analysts note that Obua’s dual role as a senior party leader in Northern Uganda and a key government official positions him as a strategic player in mobilizing support for the NRM both locally and nationally.
As the campaign season gains momentum, the flag handover signals the start of a vigorous race in Ajuri County, with the NRM banking on Obua’s influence and track record to retain the seat.
