Luweero, Uganda | September 30, 2025 — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni officially kicked off his 2026 presidential campaigns today at Bukalasa Agricultural College grounds in Luweero, where he rallied Ugandans to unite against corruption and theft of public resources while pledging to intensify government programs aimed at wealth creation.
Accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, the President arrived at the venue shortly after a heavy downpour. Thousands of enthusiastic supporters braved the rain, waving flags and chanting slogans in a spirited atmosphere that underscored Luweero’s historic role as the cradle of the NRM struggle.
In his address, President Museveni made a powerful appeal for grassroots accountability, warning against the theft of Parish Development Model (PDM) funds and government drugs.
“You know the thieves. They are your leaders. We should work together to arrest them,” Museveni told the cheering crowd, stressing that corruption is undermining the effectiveness of key government interventions.
He vowed to decisively deal with culprits siphoning drugs from public hospitals and health facilities, noting that such acts jeopardize the health and wellbeing of ordinary Ugandans.
Jobs and Wealth Creation
On the question of employment, the President reminded the population that government cannot directly employ every citizen. Instead, he encouraged Ugandans to embrace modern agriculture, agro-processing, and small-scale industry as pathways to sustainable household incomes.
To demonstrate the success of government’s wealth creation programs, Museveni showcased videos of farmers who had applied the four-acre model under the PDM, enabling them to move from subsistence to commercial farming. He emphasized that such transformation is key to fighting poverty at the grassroots.
“The future is in wealth creation. If each family can use the four acres productively, we shall defeat poverty permanently,” the President said.
He further noted that with Uganda’s oil production set to begin in the coming months, the country would unlock additional resources to finance projects in infrastructure, education, and health, as well as expand job opportunities for the youth.
Warm Reception from NRM Leaders
The campaign launch was attended by senior leaders of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), including members of the Central Executive Committee, ministers, Members of Parliament, and top Secretariat officials.
The NRM Deputy Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Rose Namayanja Nsereko, hailed Museveni’s leadership for steering Uganda through decades of steady progress.
“Luweero has always stood firmly with the NRM, and today we reaffirm our confidence in President Museveni’s visionary leadership that continues to transform our communities,” Namayanja remarked.
Symbolic Launch in Luweero
Launching his campaign in Luweero carried deep symbolism. The district is remembered as the epicenter of the 1981–1986 liberation struggle that brought Museveni and the NRM to power. By beginning his campaign there, Museveni once again sought to highlight the enduring bond between the Movement and the people of Luweero.
As the campaign season officially kicks off, Museveni’s message from Day One was clear: accountability, wealth creation, and national transformation. His call for Ugandans to work hand in hand with government to root out corruption and embrace productive ventures set the tone for the months ahead as the country prepares for the 2026 general elections.
