President Museveni Duly Nominated to Run for Presidency on NRM Ticket

The Independent Electoral Commission has officially nominated H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the National Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), to contest in the forthcoming presidential elections as the party’s flag bearer.

The nomination, held earlier today, reaffirms President Museveni’s bid to extend his leadership under the NRM, a party he has led for decades with the central mission of ensuring peace, stability, and socio-economic transformation for Uganda.

Shortly after his nomination, President Museveni expressed gratitude to members of the NRM for their trust and confidence in entrusting him with the party flag once again. He noted that the mandate reflects the unwavering commitment of the party to continue steering the country toward prosperity.

“I thank the members of the National Resistance Movement for trusting me with this responsibility. Together, we have achieved a lot, but the journey of transformation continues. I pledge to deliver on our promises, including ensuring that Uganda moves to a higher middle-income status,” President Museveni said.

He underscored the party’s focus on consolidating the gains made in key areas such as infrastructure development, industrialization, security, health, and education, while also prioritizing wealth creation among citizens. According to him, the NRM’s vision is rooted in long-term stability and economic transformation, and his leadership remains focused on protecting and expanding these achievements.

Later in the day, President Museveni is scheduled to head to Kololo Independence Grounds, where thousands of NRM supporters have gathered to celebrate his nomination. The event is expected to double as both a thanksgiving and a rallying call for unity and mobilization ahead of the 2026 general elections.

NRM officials have hailed the nomination as a demonstration of continuity and the party’s readiness to defend the progress made over the years. They argue that President Museveni’s candidature embodies both experience and a tested track record of leadership, key factors in securing Uganda’s future.

As the political season gathers momentum, the President’s nomination signals the beginning of an intensive campaign period where the NRM will be articulating its vision under the theme of Protecting the Gains—a reflection of the party’s desire to preserve stability and accelerate Uganda’s journey to middle-income status.
