ROTARY DISTRICT GOVERNOR GEOFFREY MARTIN KITAKULE HAILS UPGRADE OF NANSANA HEALTH CENTRE II TO HEALTH CENTRE IV
The ambitious UGX 4 billion project, being implemented in collaboration with Stanbic Bank Uganda, Centenary Bank, NCBA Bank Uganda, and the Buganda Kingdom, seeks to transform the existing facility into a modern health centre equipped to provide comprehensive medical services, including maternal health care, surgeries, and emergency treatment.
The District Governor of Rotary District 9213, Geoffrey Martin Kitakule, has commended the ongoing efforts by the Rotary Club of Nansana and its partners to upgrade Nansana Health Centre II in Wakiso District, Nansana Municipality, Nansana Division to a Health Centre IV, describing the project as a milestone in improving access to quality healthcare for thousands of residents in the fast-growing urban area.
A Transformational Health Initiative
District Governor Kitakule emphasized that the intervention aligns with Rotary’s mission of serving humanity by addressing pressing community needs.
“In the future we shall be able to have facilities and amenities to provide not only basic but also modern healthcare to the community here in Nansana,” Kitakule remarked. “As you see, Nansana Municipality is a growing municipality, so there is a need for these services, and we are happy as Rotarians to intervene to make it much bigger and much better.”
Kitakule underscored the importance of the project in reducing congestion at other health facilities within Wakiso and Kampala, particularly for low-income families who often face challenges accessing quality healthcare.
Appreciation to Partners and the Buganda Kingdom
The Rotary District Governor extended his gratitude to the Buganda Kingdom for its generosity in donating the land on which the health centre is being upgraded, noting that this collaboration exemplifies the Kingdom’s continued commitment to promoting community development.
“I would like to thank the Buganda Kingdom because the land we are using here to put up this facility was given by them,” Kitakule said. “We appreciate all other partners that are associating with us as Rotarians to have an impact in the communities.”
He also commended the partner banks — Stanbic Bank Uganda, Centenary Bank, and NCBA Bank Uganda — for their shared vision in investing in initiatives that improve the lives of Ugandans. According to Kitakule, their contribution reflects a growing partnership between the corporate sector and civil society organizations in advancing social welfare and public health.
Rotary Eyamba: Driving Community Impact
The upgrade of Nansana Health Centre II falls under the “Rotary Eyamba” initiative — an annual campaign spearheaded by Rotary Clubs in District 9213 aimed at mobilizing resources to support impactful community projects. Through Rotary Eyamba, Rotarians across Uganda focus on key areas such as healthcare, education, water and sanitation, and economic empowerment.
Kitakule noted that the Nansana project demonstrates Rotary’s resolve to complement government efforts in achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC), one of Uganda’s key development goals under Vision 2040.
“Rotarians believe in service above self,” Kitakule explained. “Our role is to identify community needs and work with like-minded partners to provide sustainable solutions. Upgrading this health centre means mothers will have safer deliveries, children will get timely medical attention, and families will access essential health services within their community.”
A Boost to Nansana’s Healthcare System
When completed, the new Nansana Health Centre IV will serve as a referral facility for lower health units in the area and is expected to offer:
Maternity and child health services
Emergency and surgical operations
Outpatient and inpatient care
Laboratory and diagnostic services
HIV/AIDS and TB management
Immunization and preventive health programs
This development is anticipated to ease pressure on major hospitals such as Mulago National Referral Hospital, Entebbe Regional Referral Hospital, and other facilities in Wakiso District.
A Shared Vision for Development
The partnership between the Rotary Club of Nansana, corporate institutions, and the Buganda Kingdom reflects a broader vision of collective responsibility in nation-building. Kitakule reaffirmed that Rotary will continue fostering partnerships that bridge gaps in essential services while inspiring civic engagement and philanthropy.
“Our partnership model shows that when communities, institutions, and development partners work together, we can create a lasting impact. This health centre is not just a building; it is a symbol of hope, service, and commitment to humanity,” he emphasized.
As the Rotary Club of Nansana leads the implementation of this project, the community eagerly awaits the completion of a facility that will not only provide quality healthcare but also serve as a beacon of service and collaboration.
Through the visionary leadership of District Governor Geoffrey Martin Kitakule, Rotary District 9213 continues to champion projects that align with Rotary’s global areas of focus — including disease prevention, maternal and child health, and community development — reinforcing Rotary’s unwavering motto: “Service Above Self.”
