President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni today met with His Eminence Emmanuel Wamala, in a high-level engagement that underscored the enduring partnership between faith and state in advancing Uganda’s social transformation agenda.

The meeting, held in a spirit of mutual respect and gratitude, saw President Museveni commend Cardinal Wamala for his distinguished contribution to faith-based leadership, community development, and national cohesion.The President recognized the Cardinal’s decades of spiritual guidance and moral stewardship, describing his legacy as one deeply interwoven with Uganda’s journey of growth and stability.

 

Government Support for Kamagwa Hospital

A key outcome of the discussions was the Government’s commitment to support the family foundation’s Kamagwa Hospital, which will continue to operate as a private facility. The support signals recognition of the hospital’s role in complementing public health services and expanding access to quality medical care. While remaining privately managed, Kamagwa Hospital is expected to benefit from government collaboration in areas that strengthen service delivery and infrastructure development. The move reflects the administration’s broader approach of partnering with faith-based and private institutions to improve healthcare outcomes across the country.

In addition, the Ministry of Tourism will extend support toward the establishment of a museum dedicated to preserving and promoting Cardinal Wamala’s legacy. The proposed museum will serve not only as a tribute to his life and spiritual leadership but also as a cultural and historical resource for future generations. 

The initiative aligns with efforts to document and celebrate individuals whose contributions have shaped Uganda’s moral and social fabric. By supporting the museum project, the Government aims to promote heritage preservation while inspiring national values rooted in faith, service, and unity.

 

President Accepts Role as Patron

In a further show of commitment, President Museveni accepted to serve as Patron of the initiative. His acceptance reinforces the significance attached to honoring leaders who have played a pivotal role in guiding communities through periods of change and development.

As Cardinal Wamala marks his 99th birthday, the President conveyed his warmest wishes for continued good health and God’s abundant blessings. The milestone celebration stands as a testament to a lifetime of service dedicated to spiritual growth, education, social justice, and national harmony.

 

Strengthening Faith–State Collaboration

The meeting highlighted the constructive relationship between religious institutions and government in Uganda. Faith-based organizations have historically contributed to education, healthcare, and community mobilization, complementing national development strategies.

By supporting Kamagwa Hospital and the establishment of a legacy museum, the Government reaffirmed its recognition of the vital role religious leaders and institutions play in fostering social transformation.

As Uganda continues to pursue inclusive development, the collaboration between President Museveni and Cardinal Wamala reflects a shared vision anchored in service, faith, and the collective well-being of the nation.
