New Karibuni Business Lounge Commissioned at Entebbe International Airport to Elevate Passenger Experience

In a bold step to enhance Uganda’s image as a premium and hospitable travel destination, the Minister of Works and Transport, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, officially commissioned the newly upgraded Karibuni Business Lounge at Entebbe International Airport. The revamped facility marks a significant milestone in the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority’s (UCAA) broader strategy to modernize the airport and improve the passenger journey.

The upgraded Karibuni Business Lounge introduces a host of new amenities tailored to meet the diverse needs of modern air travelers. These include:

Baby changing rooms and an infant playroom, catering to the needs of traveling families.

A designated smoking area and a prayer room, ensuring inclusivity and comfort for all passenger preferences.

Three new massage chairs and a dedicated relaxation room to offer passengers a tranquil environment before their flights.

A fully equipped conference room, ideal for business travelers in transit.

High-speed Wi-Fi, facilitating uninterrupted work or entertainment.

The seating capacity has also been nearly doubled, expanding from 160 to 300 passengers, thereby alleviating congestion during peak hours and offering more travelers access to a serene and luxurious waiting experience.

Minister Katumba Commends UCAA and Karibuni Management

While officiating the commissioning, Gen. Katumba Wamala applauded the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority and the Karibuni Lounge management for responding proactively to feedback from the traveling public.

“It is always important to understand and identify the needs of travellers and aim to surpass their expectations. We believe that the new lounge will be a valuable addition to the airport’s ambience and enhance the passenger experience,” said Gen. Katumba.

He emphasized that the facility upgrade is not simply about aesthetics, but part of a broader ambition to align Entebbe International Airport with global standards and reinforce Uganda’s status as a reliable and competitive regional aviation hub.

“This new look and improved service offering signal Uganda’s readiness to meet the evolving needs of international travellers. It is a symbol of our commitment to making Entebbe a world-class gateway to the region,” he added.

In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Fred K. Bamwesigye, the Director General of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), echoed the Minister’s sentiments and highlighted the significance of the development in elevating the overall travel experience at Entebbe.

"The refurbished Karibuni Lounge reflects our unwavering focus on improving the travel experience, promoting seamless service delivery, and upholding Uganda’s image as a warm and welcoming destination,” said Bamwesigye.

He reaffirmed UCAA’s commitment to continually investing in infrastructure, staff training, and passenger services to ensure that both local and international travelers enjoy the highest standards of service.

The Karibuni Lounge upgrade aligns with Uganda’s broader tourism and investment promotion agenda. As the country continues to draw global attention for its natural beauty, investment potential, and strategic location, world-class infrastructure like the Karibuni Lounge plays a key role in shaping first impressions.

The newly launched facility now sets a new standard in comfort and convenience at Entebbe International Airport—Uganda’s primary gateway to the world—underscoring the government's and UCAA’s joint commitment to delivering a world-class aviation experience.

The commissioning of the new Karibuni Business Lounge is part of ongoing upgrades at Entebbe International Airport, including terminal expansions, improved security systems, and customer service enhancements. These efforts are geared toward making Uganda not just a destination, but a preferred transit point in the region.

With such strides, Uganda sends a clear message: it is open for business, tourism, and investment—and ready to welcome the world in style.
