Kampala, Uganda – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretariat, led by its National Treasurer, Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo, on Thursday hosted a section of party mobilization pressure groups from across the country to deliberate on strategies ahead of the presidential campaigns scheduled to kick off in October.

The meeting, organized by the Department of Mobilization at the NRM Secretariat headquarters in Kampala, focused on harmonizing the activities of different grassroots pressure groups that are campaigning for the re-election of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in 2026.

Call for a Joint Task Force

Speaking at the meeting, Amb. Nekesa emphasized the need for unity and coordination among all groups supporting the President’s bid.

“We invited you here to discuss how we can cooperate to forge a joint campaign task force team that will traverse the country seeking support for President Museveni,” she said.

She further urged the groups to mobilize party members and the general public to turn out in huge numbers for the nomination rally of President Museveni on September 23rd at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

“I want us to mobilize Ugandans who will fill Kololo Grounds to capacity after the nomination of our great icon by the Independent National Electoral Commission. The city must be painted all yellow because NRM is big,” Nekesa said.

Submission of 2.2 Million

Signatures Amb. Nekesa also revealed that the Secretariat would, on Friday, proceed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to submit 2.2 million signatures endorsing President Museveni’s candidacy.

“The EC regulations require only 100 signatures from each district, but for us, we obtained thousands, which shows that the NRM is way bigger than any other political group,” she noted.

Socio-Economic Transformation Agenda

Highlighting the NRM’s record of achievements, Amb. Nekesa stressed that the party has made great strides in socio-economic transformation, which she said necessitated continuity of President Museveni’s leadership.

She urged mobilizers to encourage Ugandans who are not yet engaged in the money economy to embrace government empowerment initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, which are central to Uganda’s development agenda.

Other Secretariat Leaders’ Remarks

The NRM Director of Mobilization, Hon. Dr. Seninde Rosemary Nansubuga, commended the pressure groups for their voluntary support of President Museveni.

“You are good cadres because you have committed to campaign for the interests of President Museveni without expectations. As a party, we wish to thank you for the brick you have added to the NRM party. Thank you for what you are doing and continue to do so as we collaborate to strengthen the partnership,” Seninde said.

Hajjat Medina Naham, the Director of Finance and Administration, urged mobilizers to focus on spreading the message of poverty eradication and economic empowerment.

“Our ordinary people should be given a clear message to fight against household poverty through embracing government programs like the Parish Development Model and Emyooga,” Medina said.

She added that the meeting was an encouraging initiative that had brought together representatives from across the country, including Kazo, Mbarara, Karamoja, Arua, and Iganga.

Maj. (Rtd) Awich Pollar, the NRM Director of External Affairs, called on mobilizers to uphold discipline and remain steadfast in championing the party’s agenda.

“Be a great ambassador of the party by maintaining discipline during mobilization activities. Remain firm, steady, fast, and do research so that you always speak about the NRM’s achievements wherever you go,” he advised.

Unity for 2026 Victory

The meeting closed with a renewed call for cohesion, discipline, and grassroots engagement as the NRM prepares for the formal start of the 2026 presidential campaigns. With the submission of 2.2 million signatures and a massive nomination rally on the horizon, the Secretariat reiterated its confidence in securing another resounding victory for President Museveni.
