PLU Dismisses Claims It Sought Parliamentary Funding, Demands Public Apology

The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has strongly dismissed reports alleging that it requested financial support from Parliament, describing the claims as false, misleading, and intended to damage the organisation's reputation.

In an official statement issued by the General Secretary, Hon. Twalla Fadil, the political organisation categorically denied ever seeking financial assistance from Parliament, maintaining that it neither requested nor requires such funding.

"The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) categorically refutes the false reports alleging that the organisation has requested financial support from Parliament. PLU has neither requested nor sought any financial assistance from Parliament. We neither want nor need such funding," the statement reads.

The response comes amid reports linking the organisation to an alleged request for parliamentary funding, claims which PLU says are entirely baseless.

PLU Criticises Media Reporting

The organisation used the opportunity to criticise what it described as irresponsible journalism, accusing some sections of the media of publishing inaccurate information without proper verification.

According to the statement, such reporting represents a continuation of the inaccurate journalism that PLU Chairman, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has consistently spoken against in his calls for a more balanced, professional, and fact-based media environment.

PLU argued that publishing false and misleading information not only tarnishes the image and integrity of organisations but also undermines public trust in the media.

"We call upon all media practitioners to uphold the principles of accuracy, fairness, and responsible journalism. Publishing false and misleading information intended to tarnish the image and integrity of PLU is unacceptable and undermines public confidence in the media," the statement added.

Defends Author of the Book

Beyond denying the funding allegations, PLU also expressed concern over what it described as attempts to undermine the work of the author of a recently published book by fabricating a false financial narrative surrounding its publication.

The organisation said linking the book to alleged parliamentary funding diverts attention from its actual content and unfairly misrepresents the facts.

PLU urged those responsible for circulating the reports to desist from spreading misinformation, arguing that such claims distract from the substance of the publication while unfairly damaging the reputations of those involved.

Demands Public Apology and Correction

As part of its response, PLU demanded that those responsible for publishing the reports issue an immediate public apology and publish a correction retracting the claims. The organisation maintains that correcting the record is necessary to restore public confidence and ensure that accurate information prevails.

"The Patriotic League of Uganda therefore demands an immediate public apology and the publication of a correction to rectify these false reports," the statement said.

Commitment to Transparency

PLU concluded by reaffirming its commitment to transparency, integrity, and truthful public communication, pledging to continue advocating for responsible journalism rooted in accuracy, fairness, and accountability.

The statement, signed by Hon. Twalla Fadil, General Secretary of the Patriotic League of Uganda, underscores the organisation's position that public discourse should be guided by verified facts rather than speculation or misinformation.
