PLU General Secretary Engages EALA Delegation on Uganda's Regional Development Agenda

The General Secretary of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Hon. Twalla Fadil hosted a delegation of Members of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) at his office for a high-level courtesy visit aimed at strengthening collaboration on regional integration, governance, and socio-economic development.

The EALA delegation was led by Hon. Jacqueline Amongin, an EALA Commissioner, and included Hon. Veronica Kadogo, Chairperson of the Finance Committee, Hon. Rose Akol, and Hon. Paul Mwasa Musamali, who also serves as an EALA Commissioner.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the leaders to exchange views on key issues affecting Uganda and the wider East African Community (EAC), with discussions focusing on enhancing regional cooperation, promoting good governance, and supporting initiatives that drive sustainable socio-economic transformation.

According to information shared after the meeting, the discussions were cordial and productive, reflecting a shared commitment to deepening partnerships between national and regional leaders in pursuit of the East African Community's integration agenda.

The leaders emphasized the importance of stronger collaboration among institutions and policymakers to address common regional challenges, including economic development, trade, infrastructure, peace and security, and youth empowerment. They noted that greater cooperation among East African states remains essential for unlocking the region's full economic potential and improving the livelihoods of citizens.

Hon. Twalla Fadil welcomed the delegation and underscored the need for continued engagement between Uganda's political leadership and representatives serving at the regional level. He reiterated the importance of dialogue in fostering unity, building consensus on regional priorities, and ensuring that policies adopted at the East African level translate into tangible benefits for citizens.

The EALA members, in turn, reaffirmed their commitment to advancing legislation and oversight that promote regional integration while supporting initiatives aimed at improving governance, expanding economic opportunities, and strengthening cooperation among partner states.

The meeting also explored opportunities for aligning national development aspirations with the broader objectives of the East African Community, particularly in areas of investment promotion, infrastructure connectivity, trade facilitation, and inclusive economic growth.

Participants agreed that sustained engagement between political organizations, regional legislators, and other stakeholders is critical in promoting peace, stability, and shared prosperity across the East African region.

The courtesy visit highlights the growing importance of dialogue between Uganda's political actors and regional institutions as the East African Community continues to pursue deeper integration through coordinated policies and collaborative development initiatives.

The Patriotic League of Uganda has in recent months intensified engagements with various stakeholders on issues concerning national development, governance, and regional cooperation, reflecting its interest in contributing to discussions on Uganda's future within the East African integration framework.
