NUP Steps Up HIV Youths Awareness Campaigns in Kampala and Wakiso
The National Unity Platform (NUP) has held an HIV/Aids Awareness campaign in the districts of Kampala and wakiso in form of a football tournament.
On Sunday, the football tournament has been sponsored by the NUP secretariate, that involved 16 teams which represented 16 constituencies with over 1500 youths reached during the different football matches.
While addressing the Media in Kiira Municipality, on Friday last week, Lukwago Jimmy aka Kiira young one of the tournament Co sponsors, said that the tournament is a key in raising awareness about HiV/Aids amongst young people in Wakiso and Kampala.
"This is a good cause and for both the love of the football game and care for the lives of the young generation i will continue to work with the young people in Kampala and wakiso irrespective of their political affiliation to fight against HIV/Aids in our communities," Lukwago said.
Sylivia Namutyaba the NUP Youth vice chairperson for Buganda said that the tournament aims at creating awareness about HIV/Aids in relation to the Buganda kingdom call for young people to unite and fight against HIV Aids, not only in Buganda but Uganda at large.
According to Ssenyonga isaac Jimmy, the tournament coordinator for kiira Municipality, the tournament has in many ways helped many to know thier HIV status.
"We have been sensitized to go for check up and now most of us already know our HIV status , for those who are safe the advise is to continue protecting themselves yet for the sick are encouraged to start medication and also not to spread the virus to other people," Ssenyonga said.
The soccer tournament was concluded on Sunday December ,1 2024 as Uganda joins the rest of the world to celebrate World Aids day.
Lukwago gave the participating teams a bull to be taken by the winning team on top of what the party has already offered for the tournament winners.
