Akena is an impostor Says Self Proclaimed UPC Party President as he Plans for a Commission to Oversee Internal Party Elections
The self proclaimed Uganda peoples congress (UPC) party president Mr. Peter Mukidi Walubiri has engaged the public through media on matters of public concern and those within the UPC party, where he stresses that Hon. Jimmy Akena is not the true party president but an impostor and false leader whose leadership was condemned by the courts of law but continues to call himself party president through deception and use of force.
Thursday at Speke hotel, some among the key issues raised by Mr. Peter Mukidi Walubiri, scale from that of Bank of Uganda robbery which he attributes it to those in authority, corruption in both the medical institutions, education institutions, transport and other public infrastructure.
In addition to high poverty and unemployment, in the last twelve months, Mr. Mukidi says there has also been escalation of wanton violation of human rights, including secret executions, detentions without trial, expropriation of property and illegal rendition of Ugandans including Dr. Kizza Byesigye from outside Uganda.
According to Mukidi as the president of the UPC party, he looks forward to appointing members of the commission by 2025 in writing. The commission shall be chaired by the party president still or a member designated by the party president in writing.
He added that the commission shall design and roll out broad strategies and action programs for the mobilization, strengthening, operation, and survival of the party. The commission shall do all other necessary things assigned to it by the party president and shall establish committees for the discharge of specific tasks, where necessary.
Therefore, the party president shall, from time to time, review or clarify the proclamation in writing and once conditions of freedom are re-established in the country, the proclamation shall be reviewed, and the party shall be returned to normal governance as per past practice and in accordance with the party constitution, he noted.
As the party president, Mr. Mukidi has proclaimed the following in the name and on behalf of the UPC party.
“Given very hostile political and administrative environment under which the party constitutional order and legal framework for holding leadership elections in the party has been subverted, no internal party elections shall be held until such a time that a normal democratic environment is established in the country,” says Mukidi.
In addition, he mentions to establish a national strategy commission to guide the operations for the survival of the party during the period when the constitutional order and legal frame work of the party is in captivity.
The party spokesperson Ms. Sharon Ayat responded to the concerns saying that Mr. Peter Mukidi Walubiri and his team have for along time abandoned the party affairs and not been active even through out the campaigns of 2021 general elections, the 2023 by-elections of Oyam District, Kisolo District and Dokolo District.
“The party is bigger than all of us and if anyone has an issue, he or she should come at a round table and get matters solved amicably. As UPC the focus is on mobilization currently, busy campaigning, registering members and preparing for the upcoming general elections,” she said.
