NRM Declares Winners of Central Executive Committee Vice Chairperson Seats Across All Sub-Regions

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has concluded elections for its Central Executive Committee (CEC) vice chairperson seats, with the Electoral Commission chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, officially declaring the winners during the climax of the party’s National Delegates Conference held at Kololo Independence Grounds.

The elections, which attracted thousands of delegates from across the country, were aimed at strengthening the NRM’s internal democratic processes and ensuring representation of all regions at the highest decision-making level of the party.

According to Dr. Odoi, the following candidates emerged victorious in their respective regions:

Eastern Region – Calvin Martin Echodu

Echodu swept the race with a resounding 5,211 votes, translating into 99.5% of the total votes cast. His overwhelming victory signals strong grassroots support and confidence in his leadership capacity.

Karamoja Sub-Region – Loki JohnBaptist

Loki secured 3,694 votes, representing 81% of the votes cast. His win consolidates his influence in a region where the NRM has consistently commanded loyalty and support.

Northern Uganda – Dennis Hamson Obua

Obua, the Government Chief Whip, earned 3,591 votes (67%) to become the NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda. His victory underscores his stature as one of the prominent political figures in the north.

Western Region – Asiimwe Jonard

Asiimwe polled 4,044 votes, translating into 58%. He now assumes the responsibility of steering the NRM agenda in the western region, a traditional NRM stronghold.

Kampala Region – Salim Saad Uhuru

The Kampala Central Division Mayor garnered 2,411 votes (63%) to emerge as the new vice chairperson for the capital city, a region where the NRM has faced stiff political competition in recent years.

Central Region – Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo

Kasolo, the State Minister for Microfinance, clinched victory with 4,194 votes, representing 50.3% of the total votes cast. His narrow win reflects the highly competitive nature of politics in the central region, which is pivotal to Uganda’s political dynamics.

While announcing the results, Dr. Tanga Odoi commended the delegates for exercising discipline and maturity during the elections. He emphasized that the peaceful conduct of the polls demonstrated the NRM’s commitment to internal democracy.

“These results reflect the will of our delegates and the trust they have placed in their leaders. The elected vice chairpersons now carry the responsibility of consolidating party structures and strengthening NRM’s presence in their respective regions,” Dr. Odoi said.

The newly elected CEC vice chairpersons join the NRM’s top leadership structure at a crucial time when the party is preparing for the 2026 general elections. Their roles will be critical in mobilizing grassroots support, resolving internal disputes, and ensuring effective implementation of the party’s policies at regional levels.

Analysts note that the outcomes of these elections demonstrate a blend of continuity and renewal within the NRM, as both experienced politicians and emerging leaders secured seats.

The conclusion of the CEC vice chairperson elections marks yet another milestone in the NRM’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its internal democracy. With the declared winners now assuming their roles, focus shifts to how they will translate their mandates into tangible political mobilization ahead of 2026.
