KCCA FC Champions: Mayanja Penalty Delivers FUFA Super 8 Glory as KCCA FC Edge NEC 1-0

KCCA FC ended an eight-year wait for silverware on Tuesday night after defeating NEC FC 1-0 in a tense and closely contested FUFA Super 8 final at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.

Saidi Mayanja’s first-half penalty proved enough to settle a match that was fiercely contested from start to finish, handing the Kasasiro Boys their first major trophy in eight years and providing an early boost ahead of the new football season.

The victory also gave KCCA bragging rights over NEC FC, who pushed hard for an equaliser but were ultimately frustrated by a disciplined KCCA defence and a decisive performance from goalkeeper Mutwalibi Mugolofa.

Mayanja Penalty Decides Tight Contest

The decisive moment came in the 35th minute after NEC FC had appeared to threaten KCCA’s goal.

Only two minutes earlier, NEC forward Richard Basangwa had missed a golden opportunity when he headed wide, but the match quickly turned in KCCA’s favour following a controversial penalty decision.

Daniel Shabene was adjudged to have made contact with Yunus Sibira inside the NEC penalty area, prompting the referee to point to the spot.

The decision sparked strong protests from the NEC players, who were unhappy with the call, but the referee stood by the decision.

Mayanja remained composed amid the controversy and took responsibility from 12 yards. The KCCA midfielder struck the penalty firmly beyond NEC goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo to give the Kasasiro Boys a 1-0 lead.

The goal transformed the contest, forcing NEC to chase the game while KCCA became increasingly organised in their defensive approach.

NEC Push for Equaliser

NEC FC returned from the break determined to level the score and applied pressure on KCCA.

The Die Hards tried to increase the tempo and create openings, but KCCA's defensive organisation made it difficult for them to find a clear route to goal.

KCCA, meanwhile, remained dangerous on the counterattack and nearly doubled their advantage ten minutes into the second half.

Emmanuel Anyama created an opportunity for Sibira, who found space to shoot, but his effort sailed over the crossbar.

That miss left NEC with a lifeline as the game entered its final stages.

The Kampala-based side continued to absorb pressure while looking for opportunities to punish NEC on the break.

Mugolofa Produces Crucial Save

With just six minutes remaining, NEC came agonisingly close to finding the equaliser.

Enrique Lubwama unleashed a powerful long-range effort that appeared destined to trouble the KCCA goal, but goalkeeper Mutwalibi Mugolofa reacted superbly, diving to his side to palm the ball away.

The save proved crucial as it preserved KCCA’s narrow advantage at a time when NEC were throwing players forward in search of a late equaliser.

NEC continued to press in the closing minutes, but KCCA held firm to see out the contest and secure the trophy.

KCCA Celebrate Long-Awaited Silverware

The final whistle triggered celebrations among the KCCA players, technical staff and supporters, who had waited eight years to see the club lift a trophy.

For KCCA, the FUFA Super 8 triumph provides an important psychological boost at the beginning of the season and underlines the club’s ambitions to compete for more honours.

Mayanja emerged as the match-winner after converting the decisive penalty, while Mugolofa’s late intervention ensured that his effort was not cancelled out by a late NEC equaliser.

For NEC FC, the defeat will be disappointing after a spirited performance, particularly their second-half efforts to get back into the match. However, their competitive display against one of Uganda’s traditional football giants demonstrated their ability to challenge for honours.

Ultimately, KCCA FC’s greater composure in the decisive moments proved the difference.

The Kasasiro Boys now begin the new campaign with silverware in the cabinet, having finally ended their eight-year trophy drought in dramatic fashion at the Hamz Stadium , Nakivubo.
