UGANDA, KOREA TO CONVENE MAJOR INVESTMENT MEETING IN 2026
In a significant boost to bilateral economic relations, Uganda and the Republic of Korea are set to hold a high-level Uganda–Korea Investment Meeting in mid-2026, aimed at strengthening trade, technology transfer, and industrial cooperation between the two nations.
The announcement followed a bilateral meeting held on November 3, 2025, between Mr. Vincent Bagiire Waiswa, Permanent Secretary of Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Gi-Hyun Kim, Vice President for International Cooperation at the Korea International Trade Association (KITA), at the Trade Tower Building in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
Mr. Bagiire commended the long-standing partnership between Uganda and Korea, emphasizing the need for deeper collaboration in key priority sectors such as Agro-industrialization, Tourism, Mineral Development, and Science, Technology, and Innovation (ATMS).
He noted that the upcoming investment meeting would serve as a strategic platform to attract Korean investors and promote sustainable partnerships across these sectors.
“Uganda welcomes Korea’s advanced technology and investment expertise. This engagement will help drive industrial growth and create opportunities for both Ugandan and Korean enterprises,” Mr. Bagiire stated.
In response, Mr. Gi-Hyun Kim expressed KITA’s commitment to working closely with Uganda to organize a successful investment meeting.
He highlighted the need for Uganda’s private sector to prepare adequately for engagement with Korean businesses in order to tap into Korea’s robust industrial and innovation ecosystem.
KITA officials further encouraged the Government of Uganda to establish a resident embassy in Seoul, noting that a permanent diplomatic presence would strengthen investor confidence and facilitate more consistent business exchanges between the two nations.
The Ugandan delegation also included H.E. Ms. Tophace Kaahwa, Uganda’s non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Mr. Nurh Byarufu, Minister-Counsellor, and Ms. Evelyn Ngalonsa, Counsellor.
The forthcoming Uganda–Korea Investment Meeting marks another milestone in the growing economic partnership between Kampala and Seoul. It is expected to provide a gateway for new trade agreements, joint ventures, and technology-driven investments that align with Uganda’s Vision 2040 development agenda.
