UGANDA - The Uganda People's Congress has implored all stake holders together with the ministry for health to take full responsibility in the fight for Immunisation against killer diseases such as Measles, Polio, Tetanus, Hepatitis B, Haemophilus influenza, Tuberculosis, Diarrhea and Whooping cough among the children.

On Wednesday at the party headquarters in kampala, addressing journalists, the party spokesperson Ms. Arach Oyat Sharon said that they have noted with great concern in relation to the recently released report by the ministry for health which indicates how a good number of children miss the second dose of Immunisation against such diseases.

"The report, according to experts renders the first dose useless and this raises serious concerns about the growth and development of the children a far as health in concerned."

Oyat explained that the ministry of health is expected to ensure the availability of such immunization facilities as parents endeavor to ensure that all their children are immunized against those specific diseases.

This implies that it is a matter of concerted efforts at all stakeholders who should therefore take charge of their responsibilities, she said.

Uganda People's Congress acknowledges the immunization program by goverment through it's line Ministry of Health, however massive immunization programmes should be launched, Oyat included.

"The negativity towards immunisation in our society should be fought as it is ignorance that requires effective ground awareness campaigns and mobilization emphasizing both the benefits and risks of not immunizing a child especially at lower levels like villages and parishes as it also demands for mobilisation of resources and making priorities right." She added.

Ugandans need to ensure proper early child growth and development which calls for the mothers to attend to antenatal and postnatal services on a regular basis as recommended to help in minimizing infant mortality rates.

With improved transport and portable fingersted facilities, a wider catchment area can be attended to by rolling out a national community, or door to door immunization, therefore Ugandans need to borrow a leaf from some districts like Wakiso, Mukono, Lowero and Kampala where this experiment exercise has been carried out while giving positive results.

Parliament through budgetary priorities should support the steady supply of medicine in such an exercise in partnership with cabinet, Oyat emphasized.
