Speaker Anita Among Commends Private Sector as Healingway Hospital Opens in Bugolobi with Advanced Diagnostic Equipment

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, has commended the private sector for its vital role in complementing government efforts to improve Uganda’s healthcare system. She made the remarks while officiating the grand opening of Healingway Hospital in Bugolobi this morning.

The state-of-the-art facility, founded by Hon. Capt. Mike Mukula, aims to provide affordable, high-quality medical services to Ugandans, with a strong focus on early disease detection and personalized patient care.

“The government recognizes and welcomes every investment that directly uplifts the health and wellbeing of our citizens. I congratulate Capt. Mike Mukula and his team for this milestone and encourage more private actors to follow suit in bringing services closer to the people,” said Speaker Anita Among during her address.

One of the major highlights of Healingway Hospital is the installation of the iStar 500, a compact, fully automated chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA) analyzer. According to Hon. Capt. Mike Mukula, the iStar 500 is a game-changer for diagnostic efficiency in Uganda's private health sector.

This advanced machine delivers test results in just 11 minutes and can process up to 36 tests per hour, making it particularly efficient for small to mid-sized laboratories.

Its design features auto-sampling, real-time monitoring, and advanced anti-contamination systems, ensuring both speed and reliability in diagnostics.

The analyzer supports a broad range of tumor marker tests, including:

CEA (Carcinoembryonic Antigen)

AFP (Alpha-fetoprotein)

PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen – total and free)

CA 125, CA 19-9, CA 15-3 among others.

These tests play a vital role in early cancer detection, monitoring treatment responses, and improving prognosis for patients battling various types of cancer.

Hon. Mukula emphasized that Healingway Hospital was established out of a deep commitment to elevate the standard of healthcare in Uganda.

“Our vision is to bridge the gap between affordability and excellence. We want to offer our people the same level of diagnostic precision and compassionate care you’d find in international hospitals—right here in Kampala,” Mukula stated.

The hospital also plans to expand its services to include specialized clinics in cardiology, oncology, and maternal health, as well as community outreach programs targeting early diagnosis and preventive care.

Speaker Among highlighted that such investments strengthen the ongoing collaboration between the public and private sectors, which is crucial for achieving Uganda’s Vision 2040 goals in health and human capital development.

“Let this be a model for how innovation and compassion can come together to serve our people better. We in Parliament will continue supporting policies that create a conducive environment for such transformative initiatives,” she concluded.

With its cutting-edge diagnostic capabilities, experienced medical team, and commitment to patient-centered care, Healingway Hospital is set to become a beacon of hope for thousands of Ugandans in need of quality healthcare.
