Rubaga South Stands Firm. Residents Urge MP Mukasa to Go Independent if NUP Shuts Him Out

Tension is rising in Rubaga South as residents mount pressure on their area Member of Parliament, Hon. Aloysius Mukasa, to contest as an independent candidate in the 2026 general elections should the National Unity Platform (NUP) fail to reinstate him as its flag bearer.

The development follows NUP’s decision to hand its party ticket to Nassolo Euginea a move that has sparked widespread discontent among locals, who describe her as “unpopular and disconnected from the community.”

Many residents accuse the party of disregarding their voices, insisting that Hon. Mukasa has served diligently and deserves another term based on his strong performance and direct engagement with the people.

Residents Back Mukasa’s Record of Service

Across the constituency, residents express firm support for Mukasa, citing his accessibility, leadership, and record of tangible achievements.

“We shall vote for Kyagulanyi for president, but for MP, we are with Mukasa,” said one resident from Kabowa, echoing a sentiment widely shared in the area.

Business operators along the railway line in Ndeeba and Katwe recall how Mukasa intervened during a planned eviction under the Ministry of Works and Transport. His engagement with Minister Gen. Katumba Wamala helped protect residents who had lived in the area for over a decade.

“Without Mukasa, we would be homeless now,” said a vendor at Ndeeba Railway Zone.

Locals also commend Mukasa for his commitment to youth empowerment, especially through funding start-up projects for ghetto youth.

Many say these initiatives have helped reduce crime and promote self-reliance in communities like Mutundwe, Nateete, Kabowa, and Ndeeba.

“He has empowered us with money to start work instead of idling around,” said one youth leader, emphasizing the impact of Mukasa’s programs.

Mukasa Calls for Calm as Petition Awaits Decision

Despite the growing public pressure, Hon. Mukasa has maintained a calm and composed approach. He has urged his supporters to remain patient as his petition before the NUP election tribunal is still under consideration.

“I believe my party will be impartial and deliver a fair decision,” Mukasa stated, reaffirming his respect for internal party processes.

However, many residents insist they will not abandon him if the tribunal rules against him. “If NUP rejects him, we shall vote Mukasa as an independent,” declared a group of boda boda riders from Nateete.

As the NUP tribunal prepares its ruling, Rubaga South stands at a political crossroads torn between loyalty to the party and devotion to a leader many describe as “a servant who delivers.”

Observers note that Mukasa’s final decision could redefine the political landscape of Rubaga South as the 2026 general elections draw closer.
