NRM Unveils Museveni’s Official Portrait and Campaign Theme as Preparations for Delegates Conference Intensify

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has today officially launched the portrait of its presidential flagbearer, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, alongside the campaign theme that will guide the party into the 2025–26 general elections.

Presiding over the unveiling, NRM’s 1st National Vice Chairman, Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo, hailed the occasion as both a symbolic renewal of the Movement’s mandate and a reaffirmation of the values that have carried it through decades of governance.

He unveiled the campaign theme: “Protecting the Gains as We Make a Qualitative Leap into a High Middle Income Status”, describing it as a strategic message that captures the dual responsibility of consolidating Uganda’s hard-won progress while preparing for the next phase of transformation.

“This theme reflects our duty to safeguard peace, security, and development achieved under the Movement while taking deliberate steps to propel Uganda into high middle-income status,” Kigongo stated.

Todwong Meets District Chairpersons Over Delegates Conference

Parallel to the launch, NRM Secretary General Rt. Hon Richard Todwong convened a meeting with all party district chairpersons to brief them on the forthcoming National Delegates Conference, scheduled for August 20–28.

In his address, Todwong stressed the importance of meticulous preparation and strict adherence to the NRM Constitution to ensure a smooth and successful event. He emphasized that involving district chairpersons early in the process was intentional to promote ownership and accountability at every stage.

“We want this conference to reflect the strength and discipline of our party structures. That is why we are engaging you directly—to make sure you are fully in charge of your delegates, from the districts to the national level,” Todwong said.

Clear Rules for Delegates

Todwong assured members that the party Constitution provides clear guidance on delegate qualifications, noting that both district chairpersons and NRM parliamentary flag bearers are constitutionally mandated to attend.

He presented official delegate lists to the chairpersons and cautioned them to work strictly within the framework to maintain order and integrity.

“Our Constitution is explicit on who qualifies to attend. We have harmonised the delegate details to avoid the confusion that sometimes arose in the past. Positions left vacant after the last internal elections will be filled during upcoming residual elections. Until then, they remain vacant as per the party’s guidance,” he explained.

Programme of Activities

The Secretary General outlined the schedule leading up to the main Delegates Conference, which will attract more than 25,000 leaders from the sub-county to the national level.

August 20–22: Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting

August 22: Accreditation of NEC members

August 23: NEC meeting

August 24: Accreditation for Special Interest Group delegates

August 25: Special Interest Group Conference

August 26: Accreditation for main Delegates Conference

August 27–28: Main Delegates Conference sessions

Todwong stressed that discipline, order, and inclusivity will guide every step of the process.

“Each delegate has a defined role and place in this process. We must respect that structure. This will not only guarantee order but also demonstrate to Ugandans that the NRM remains the party of organisation, unity, and discipline,” he said.

Commitment to Cohesion and Transformation

He reaffirmed the Secretariat’s commitment to ensuring that the conference strengthens internal cohesion within the Movement and positions the party to continue championing Uganda’s transformation agenda.

The twin developments—the launch of President Museveni’s official portrait and campaign theme, coupled with meticulous preparations for the National Delegates Conference—mark a significant step as the NRM prepares for the 2025–26 elections, underscoring its message of continuity, stability, and transformation.
