NRM's Faridah Nambi Kigongo Among More Candidates Nominated for Kawempe North By-Election as Nominations Close
On the second day of nominations, Nsereko Moses, an Independent candidate using the Chair as his symbol, was the first to be successfully nominated. His entry into the race added to the growing list of contenders seeking to represent the people of Kawempe North in Parliament.

The race for the Member of Parliament seat in Kawempe North Division Constituency is heating up as nine candidates have so far been duly nominated to contest in the upcoming by-election scheduled for 13th March 2025. The nomination process, which began on 26th February 2025, is being conducted by the Independent Electoral Commission at the Office of the Assistant District Election Administrator in Kawempe Division.

an Independent candidate using the Chair as his symbol, was the first to be successfully nominated. His entry into the race added to the growing list of contenders seeking to represent the people of Kawempe North in Parliament.
Following Nsereko’s nomination, Musiitwa Ismail of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP)
was also nominated, becoming the sixth candidate to be officially cleared to run in the by-election.
Shortly after, Mutazindwa Muhamood, another Independent candidate, was successfully nominated. He will be contesting using the Bicycle as his campaign symbol. His nomination marked the seventh candidate to enter the race.
Adding to the competition, the Democratic Party (DP) candidate, Kasacca Henry Mubiru,
was nominated by the Returning Officer, Mr. Henry Makabayi, to contest for the MP seat. His nomination brought the total number of candidates to eight.
The ninth and latest candidate to be nominated was Faridah Nambi Kigongo, the NRM flag bearer. She was nominated at exactly 12:45 PM, an event presided over by Mr. Makabayi, who is the Returning Officer for the Kampala Electoral District.
Faridah Nambi’s nomination was witnessed by key National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders, including Hon. Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde, the party’s Director of Mobilisation, alongside other party officials.
Addressing the media after her nomination, Hajjat Faridah Nambi expressed her gratitude for being entrusted with the NRM flag in the by-election.
“I have the pleasure to hold the NRM flag in this by-election and promise to work together with the people of Kawempe North Constituency to ensure the social and economic transformation of our people,” she stated.
She further emphasized the importance of having an NRM representative in the constituency, arguing that the region faces numerous challenges that require direct engagement with the ruling government to secure necessary resources and solutions.
“The constituency has various challenges that require an NRM person to lobby from the ruling government. I present myself as the solution to those problems,” she added
.
The nomination process closed at 5 PM today, after which the final list of candidates will be confirmed. The competition for the Kawempe North MP seat is shaping up to be a highly contested battle, with a diverse mix of independent candidates and party flag bearers all vying for the votes of the electorate.
As the election date of 13th March 2025 draws closer, candidates will embark on their campaigns, presenting their manifestos and engaging with the residents of Kawempe North.
The by-election is being closely monitored as it is expected to be a highly competitive race, given the significance of Kawempe North as a politically vibrant constituency in Kampala. The Electoral Commission has urged all candidates to conduct peaceful and issue-based campaigns in adherence to the electoral laws.
With nine candidates already nominated, the race for the Kawempe North MP seat is officially underway. More candidates may be added to the final list before nominations close. As the countdown to election day begins, the electorate in Kawempe North will soon decide who will represent them in Parliament.
