The Electoral Commission (EC) has today held a series of engagements with key stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and ensure the effective implementation of the 2025/2026 General Elections Roadmap. Engagement with Women Situation Room-Uganda
A significant part of the day was the meeting with the leadership of the Women Situation Room-Uganda. Discussions centered on strategies to promote peaceful, inclusive, and gender-sensitive electoral processes. The role of the Women Situation Room-Uganda in ensuring active participation of women in the electoral process was highlighted. Both parties emphasized the importance of creating a conducive environment that encourages women's participation as voters, candidates, and stakeholders in electoral decision-making.
The meeting also explored avenues for collaboration on initiatives aimed at preventing electoral violence, particularly against women, and fostering inclusivity in Uganda's democratic journey.
Meeting with Uganda Journalists Association
The Electoral Commission also engaged with the Uganda Journalists Association to discuss the media's crucial role in enhancing transparency and accountability during the electoral process. Key areas of focus included strengthening collaboration to deliver effective voter education, disseminating accurate electoral information, and addressing misinformation and disinformation during elections.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining professional standards in reporting electoral processes and ensuring the media serves as a reliable bridge between the Commission and the electorate.
Engagement with the Promoters of Democratic Alliance
In its meeting with the Promoters of Democratic Alliance, the Commission discussed aligning efforts to uphold democratic principles and ensure credible electoral processes. Collaboration with political stakeholders was underscored as pivotal to achieving a successful electoral roadmap.
Discussions revolved around the need for sustained dialogue, adherence to the principles of free and fair elections, and collective efforts to foster national cohesion throughout the electoral cycle.
Notification of Kawempe Division North MP Vacancy
In a related development, the Clerk to Parliament and Secretary to the Parliamentary Commission, Adolf Mwesige Kasaija, officially notified the Electoral Commission of a vacancy in Kawempe Division North following the untimely death of Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya.
The notification marks the beginning of the process to fill the vacant parliamentary seat. The Electoral Commission is expected to issue a detailed roadmap for the by-election, which will include nominations, voter education, and polling dates. The Commission reassured the public of its readiness to ensure a transparent and inclusive process to fill the vacancy.
