Armed with a new law degree, MP Mukasa says his second term will hit even harder on land grabbers, illegal arrests, and injustice.
Lubaga South Member of Parliament, Hon. Aloysius Mukasa, has earned a second degree a Bachelor of Laws from the International University of East Africa (IUEA), strengthening his long-standing commitment to defending the oppressed and advocating for justice. His first degree was in Business Administration.
The accomplishment was celebrated during IUEA’s 12th Graduation Ceremony, presided over by the Chief Guest, Hon. Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo, Minister of State for Higher Education. Dr. Muyingo urged graduates to embrace continuous learning, integrity, and innovation.
“Uganda needs graduates who are principled, knowledgeable and ready to serve,” Dr. Muyingo said. “Education should sharpen your ability to make a difference and to stand on the side of what is right.”
“Law Strengthens My Ability to Defend My People” Mukasa
Speaking after receiving his degree, Hon. Mukasa said returning to study law was a deliberate decision inspired by the demands of his work in Parliament and the needs of his constituents.
“The position I hold requires me to stand with the oppressed,” he said. “Studying law gives me the tools to defend my people more effectively. Every MP needs to understand the basics of the law to legislate better and protect citizens.”
A Legacy of Defending Ordinary People
Hon. Mukasa has earned a strong reputation in Lubaga South for consistently defending vulnerable residents, often in situations where they felt powerless. His advocacy has focused on:
Land Grabbing. He has intervened in several unresolved cases where families faced illegal evictions and threats from powerful individuals. Mukasa has worked with lawyers and leaders to block unlawful takeovers and push for due process.
Arrests of Opposition Supporters: Over the past years, many opposition supporters in Lubaga South have faced arrests. Mukasa has stood by them, demanding fair treatment, legal representation, and respect for human rights.
Protection of Market Vendors: He has spoken out against harassment, unfair charges, and forceful displacement of traders in markets like Ndeeba, Katwe, and Natete.
Community Legal Guidance: Even before completing his law degree, he mobilized pro bono legal support for residents in disputes ranging from property issues to unfair detentions.
Pledges for His Second Term
Hon. Mukasa reaffirmed that his new legal qualification will not only empower his current service but also shape his work in the next parliamentary term.
“In my second term, I will be even better positioned to defend the ordinary people of Lubaga South,” he said. “I pledge to continue fighting for justice, for fairness, and for the rights of every resident who feels unheard or oppressed.”
Growing Support Ahead of the 2026 Elections
Mukasa’s consistent advocacy, accessibility, and vocal stand against injustices have earned him strong grassroots support across Lubaga South. Many residents—youth, traders, and community leaders—openly express confidence in his return to Parliament, pointing to his track record and community presence.
While the election outcome is ultimately decided by voters, Mukasa’s popularity, loyalty from the electorate, and community trust have given him strong momentum heading into the next polls. Many constituents say his actions, not just his words, have cemented him as a leader they believe in.
A Graduation That Symbolizes Purpose and Service
As over 600 students graduated, the ceremony highlighted the transformative power of education. For Hon. Mukasa, the law degree marks not just personal achievement but a renewed promise to use knowledge as a tool to advance justice and protect the people of Lubaga South.
