Masaka NRM Leaders Applaud Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo for Strengthening Mobilisation and Boosting Party Performance
In an interview, Masaka City NRM Chairperson Rogers Bulegeya credited the Treasurer’s office for delivering funds when they were most needed, saying the support significantly improved grassroots mobilisation.
Leaders of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Masaka City have applauded the party’s National Treasurer, Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo, for what they describe as decisive financial mobilisation that strengthened party structures and boosted performance during the January 15, 2026 general elections.
According to city party leaders, the Treasurer’s office ensured timely allocation of funds to support NRM flag bearers and special interest groups, including youth, persons with disabilities, and older persons. They say the facilitation enabled smoother coordination of campaign activities, improved outreach, and enhanced logistical support throughout the electoral period.
The elections were conducted under the supervision of the Electoral Commission of Uganda, chaired by Simon Byabakama Mugenyi.
Timely facilitation credited for mobilisation
In an interview, Masaka City NRM Chairperson Rogers Bulegeya credited the Treasurer’s office for delivering funds when they were most needed, saying the support significantly improved grassroots mobilisation.
He explained that the funding allowed the city secretariat to coordinate campaign structures, monitor field activities, and directly support candidates contesting under special interest group categories.
Local leaders say the facilitation extended to village and community-level mobilisation, strengthening party visibility and engagement during the election cycle. They argue that this level of financial coordination helped stabilise operations and allowed candidates to focus on outreach rather than logistical constraints.
Bulegeya described Nekesa as a committed party leader whose stewardship has prioritised building functional grassroots structures nationwide, adding that her approach has increased confidence among local organisers.
Measurable gains in Masaka City
NRM leaders point to improved electoral performance as evidence of the impact of the mobilisation drive. In the January 2026 elections, Masaka City recorded 33 percent support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni — an increase from 22 percent in the 2021 general elections.
Party officials also highlighted a major rally hosted in the city in December 2025, which drew tens of thousands of supporters. They attributed the turnout to intensified grassroots engagement supported by structured financing and coordinated mobilisation.
Additionally, the NRM secured nine councillor seats in the city, including representation from youth, persons with disabilities, and older persons, expanding its footprint within the City Council.
Calls for sustained support
Masaka NRM leaders say the experience demonstrates the importance of predictable financial support to local party structures. They expressed optimism that continued facilitation from the National Treasurer’s office will further consolidate gains, expand outreach, and strengthen internal organisation.
They reaffirmed their commitment to deepening grassroots structures and sustaining mobilisation momentum, crediting Nekesa’s financial coordination as a central factor in the party’s recent progress in the region.
Party officials maintain that structured funding, combined with local leadership engagement, will remain key to broadening support and maintaining organisational stability in future electoral cycles.
